Default DOT 3 or DOT 4 for Brake/Clutch Fluid?

Hey guys, I just want to first say I did search but I couldn't find exactly what I am looking for. I'm planning on changing my clutch/brake fluids this next upcoming weekend. I have a 1999 Corvette FRC (MN6) and it has 30k miles on it (Only mod is Borla Exhaust). I have 3 12 oz bottles of Amsoil Series 600 DOT 4 Racing Brake Fluid already in my garage. I know in the owners manual it recommends DOT 3 compliant so I am wondering if I should instead buy 3 12oz bottles of Amsoil Series 500 High-Performance DOT 3 Brake Fluid and use that. This will be my first time changing the clutch/brake fluids so I just want to make sure I am being safe.

On a side note I also plan to change all my other fluids as well plus a few other things. This is what I have at the moment:

Transmission:
Amsoil Torque-Drive Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid - 1 Gallon

Rear Differential:
Amsoil Severe Gear 75W-90 - 2 Quarts
Amsoil Limited Slip Additive - 1 4oz bottle

Brake/Clutch:
Amsoil Series 600 DOT 4 Racing Brake Fluid - 3 12oz bottles

Engine:
Mobile 1 Synthetic Oil 5w30 - 7 Quarts

Other:
Wix Fuel Filter
MSD Super Conductor 8.5mm Red Spark Plug Wires
AC Delco 41-110 Spark Plugs

My question is should I pick up 3 12oz bottles of Amsoil Series 500 High-Performance DOT 3 Brake Fluid? or should I just use the 3 12oz bottles of Amsoil Series 600 DOT 4 Racing Brake Fluid. I'm just wondering which one would be best for these cars and if it happens that DOT4 is the way to go, is there any benefit? Also, any comments on the rest of the maintenance items I listed is fine as well. Thank you CF. I know you guys know best.

Youll be fine either way. The DOT4 has a higher boiling point. I use DOT4 in both my brake system and clutch system.

I'm not trying to hijack the thread but.....

Can DOT3 and DOT4 be used together in either the brake system or the clutch or do you have to completely flush each system and start with one or the other?

Dot 4 is fine for your car as long as the bottles have never been opened.

Either one, your safe. I'd like to remind you that of all the fluids in your Corvette, the clutch fluid is the most abused/or worked hardest and should be flushed and new fluid installed every two years.

Pick one or the other, but don't mix them. Just go get a few bottles of DOT4.

Thanks for all the info guys. This is exactly what I was thinking. I was planning on using the DOT 4 that I already have but I just wanted reassurance.

Yes, flush the brake system with the Dot4 you plan on using, make sure and actuate the ABS module to do a true flush...We always recommend Motul RBF600 Fluid for the Brakes & Clutch...You just need to watch and read the labels to make sure the Wet Boiling point is high...We recommend flushing the brake system every 2 years...But the Hyd Clutch needs to be done every 2 months, (one of our One-Man Clutch Speed Bleeders makes this much easier) it really depends on how much & how hard you drive your corvette...What kills the clutch fluid is the clutch disc dust passing through the seals and it gets into the Fluid, then of course heat is next...

If you drive the car while the clutch fluid is toast, you will cause premature wear on the clutch disc, due to engagement problems...You may not notice this until you wear your clutch out really fast...

Thanks for the advice. I was actually just looking at the article/video that ranger put out about clutch care. Hope you had a great weekend.

agree with the others. As far as the severe gear for the diff, you don't really need the additive as it's already mixed into the amsoil severe gear. Some people say they still had minor grinding and added a little additive until the grinding stopped, but when I did it in my car, I didn't need any extra.

^ I have heard the same. But I figured it would hurt to pick up the additive just in case. Thanks for the tip.

I switched from DOT 3 to Prestone Synthetic DOT 4 for my clutch fluid and 1 wk later, out of nowhere my car won't go into gear. I'm thinking the clutch master cyl is blown.

That's bad news. Have you had a chance to figure out what caused it?

I use Amsoil severe-gear75/90, and I did add a bottle of their additive at the same time they replaced the gear oil. So far so good .

I have Amsoil Severe Gear. I did not use additive because it already has it in there. No issues.

Only add it in if your rear chatters in sharp turns. Too much of that stuff is not good.

I run Castrol Synthetic brake fluid - GT LMA. It has a higher boiling point than either Dot 3 or 4.
