Ex Girlfriend Stole my Spare Key Fob and Ignition Key. What should I do ?
I HATE this drama. I am almost 50 and can't stand the worry and am afraid of this eating me up and getting me sick.
But I suspect my ex-girlfriend of stealing my spare key fob and ignition key to my C5 Coupe. She knows I loved my car more than her
So now you guys that have a level head, what should I do to prevent car theft and to have peace of mind while I am at work ? I dont' think she is supid enough to steal my car but she may pass the keys off to one of her shady friends.
If I get a new key fob, will the the old fobs (the stolen one) be disabled ? Will they not work any longer ?
Can I just get NEW ignition keys programmed to my car that will disable the old ignition key ? Is this possible ?
How much money would this cost ?
I know the old ignition key should work but not if the security system is armed ? Would it ???
I am so upset so I hope I am forming my thoughts clearly here.
I can't prove that she stole them so calling the police would be worthless.
Bottom line, WHAT SHOULD I DO GUYS ?
Does anyone have a spare key fob to sell me for my 99 Coupe ?
Give me some clear advise so I can calm down.
Thanks

rip line a CS grenade in the car. Be sure to disconnect it when you open the door but a thief would be unsuspecting
Seriously though, If you can prove it, press theft charges.

i dont know about getting a new key fob or whatever but clifford sells a great alarm with anti-carjacking (called blackjack) that disables your ignition if the engine goes above 2500 rpm without a proper keypad button sequence. in the meantime i would remove my starter relays and keep them in the house.
good luck.
good luck.

Call your nearest GM dealership and ask them whether you can have the key chip reprogrammed or replaced and a new alarm code programmed. I would think they would be able to do this considering they can pull the key code in the event of a lost key.
That way, you can swap out the code and the alarm code which would render the fob useless. I'm sure you will also have to pay the Corvette Tax ($$$) to have this done.

Then see if you can get a spare key and get it "married" to the car with your current key and erase the old key. Then the only thing she could use the key for is to open the door and glove box.
You could also keep a hungry pitbull on the driver's seat.

You can reprogram the key fob . . . that's not a big deal.
But, she has a key! So she can open the door with the key, put the key in ignition and drive off.
Call a locksmith, he will have the answers you are looking for.

Might be cheaper to get a good pager alarm with new remote.
My old keyfob for my DD won't start the car because it can't disarm the alarm.
If you use it to unlock the car, the alarm will sound if you open the door and kill the ignition. It will also alert your keyfob (if within range.)
Can't start the car if the alarm is armed or triggered. Only if it's unlocked with the aftermarket fob.
Cost about $400
Upsides: You're alerted to tampering and she can't start the car.
Downsides: She can still open the door (alarmed, of course) but she can get access to the interior. But she could break the window or push it down into the door anyway, so...

About the only thing I see possible is..
1. Reprogram your fob, It will render the other one useless.
2. Change door lock and ign switch.
3. Make sure you have full coverage insurance.

Was she cute?
I agree with the "reprogram" your FOB.. It will nuke the one she has.
OR Up the Agreed value of your car and hope she makes off with it.. Then you can upgrade to a C7 soon..

In the owners manual there should be a card that gives complete instructions. If not, try a "search" here on the forum.
After all that, text your X and have her meet you at Rubys at the end of the HB Pier for a burger and toss her off...
I see you live in Fountain Valley! I had a home there @ Talbert and Magnolia in the Greenbrook tract.

file a police report then it is on file in case something happens and let her know you did... get dealer to give you new ones with new codes....case closed and move on with your life, always remember it is just a car and can be replaced no matter how much you love it. good luck.

You could program the fob you currently have and by doing so delete hers.
Then see if you can get a spare key and get it "married" to the car with your current key and erase the old key. Then the only thing she could use the key for is to open the door and glove box.

Turn the key to the run position. You have to go to the FOB training menu on the DIC. (All these stupid abbreviations!!) Can program up to 3 FOBs to your car. As soon as you program the first- it will erase all previously programmed FOBs(remotes).
1. Turn ignition on.
2. Turn radio off.
3. Press Driver Information Center(DIC) RESET button.
4. Press OPTIONS button on DIC until display is blank.
5. Press and hold RESET button for 3 seconds.
6. Press OPTIONS button until FOB TRAINING is displayed.
7. Press RESET button to begin programming sequence.
8. Simultaneously press and hold LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on first remote for 13 seconds. Message will appear when remote is programmed. Repeat this step for additional remotes.
9. Turn igntion off and remove keys from ignition.
10. Test remotes.
Hope this helps
