engine bay cleaning

Remove Hood, drive fast!
Install hood and invest in hood seal!
I have cleaned my engine with a pressure washer. I just never got too close to anything and did not directly spray the alternator. Once I had everything clean, I dried it off with some clean cloths and then applied products such as Areospace 303 and Mothers products to all the plastics and such to clean further and protect them.

Melting Slicks
Every time I wash my car I wipe the engine compartment down with a damp towel. Therefore, it's never been dirty.
That said, a little Simple Green, a brush, a damp towel and go at it.
As said above, 303 is the best on your engine. IMHO

ricknyc23: I was going to pull mine and repaint it but I found an old thread that reported the ArmourAll tire foam recommendation. So I tried it as it only cost about $5 a can here in Va. Beach. It worked and mine is looking like new after years of never being cleaned. It was stained from dust, dirt, window washer fluid and water. Not anymore.
Anyway, the tire foam dries very quickly. I didn't time it but the foam was gone in 5 minutes. I put a bed sheet over the open engine compartment and sprayed the hoodliner completely. The foam evaperates and leaves a clean and black hoodliner. Try it before you pull it out, replace it or repaint it. You only have $5 to lose... It worked for me.

I didn't want any tire foam on the motor or my paint as I didn't know if it would cause a problem. No runs but it does spray little mist droplets that might get on the paint. I'm just careful so I don't have damage on my vert.
