Default How many use Castrol Edge ?

I switched from Mobil 1 to Castrol Edge 5W-30 in my 1998 C5 with 130,000 miles on it (switched 2 oil changes ago). Did it because of increasing lead ppm (wear), but it went down by 3 times with Edge ! Engine is quieter too.

How many people are running Castrol Edge?

I've really been wanting to try it, but wow, it's pretty spendy, especially when I change my oil at 3K. Sounds promising though. Thanks for the heads up! Castrol has always made a good product, IMO.

WalMart has it for $28 for 5 quarts.

I understand wanting to take care of your engine, but if price is an issue why change it so often? It really isn't necessary to change at the 3k mark, not unless it's been an extended period of time.

Castrol certainly is a good product though

Very interesting info about the lead numbers rather than opinions...........Would be good if others with oil analysis would chime in..........Decisions based on facts are always better....

I change my oil once a year regardless of mileage and the DIC is always telling me I have 40% or more left, mostly road miles.

Default Oil @ the EPA ?

Since the EPA sets the standards for Motor oil and Gasoline, how could the level of zinc or ZDDP be higher in one motor oil rather than another. IE: could Pennnsoil platinum have more ZDDP over say Mobil-1 or Amsoil or Royal Purple. They all great motor oils and some have different additives, but the EPA sets those standards all Motor Oils and now they are building standards for diesels as well. But I don't understand how one motor oil can produce a product that has more lead or zinc in their additives package.

I'm a NCRS member and I know some guys have an separate additive which their put into their Gas tanks and then fill the fuel tank with premium fuel and it protect the valve sets in older engines. I don't know so if someone can set me right I welcome the information. I know that the EPA is going to raise the Ethanol levels soon and the are working on getting stricter rules about Gasoline ? Just wondering ? I'd be interested in how Castoil Edge quited your engine. Is their mixture allowed in this country ? Castrol is owned by BP and they have been in the oil industry forever. I know some folk swear by Royal Purple which I'm going to try on my next oil change, and then maybe I'll try Amsoil, see which one quites the valve train some ?

I'm talking about lead in USED OIL ANALYSIS, after running oil in engine !

You can buy Castrol Edge at WalMart, it is an extended drain (good for 15,000 miles) oil.

Nobody sets standards for oil additives, these are what makes most differences.

I used it in my DD a 2007 MKZ. Picked it up on sale. Not sure I believe the 8x protection over M1. Sounds like advertisement Would I use it in the vette? Why not as long as its on sale.

Ive used it since it came out. Im all for running oil with any improvment where protection levels are higher. Im not sure about their 8x better protection claim, but even if its 2x better, its worth it to me.

I was under the idea that the EPA set standards on things like motor oil and what it's made of. I guess I'm thinking of things like how much ethanol in going in gasoline and I thought I read where the EPA was forcing oil producers to cut some of the protection/beneficial additives that the manufacturers can put in motor oil sold in the USA ?

But maybe I'm wrong. I know Amsoil and Royal Purple are 'Niche' producers, and as such have a little more leverage on the ingredients ?
