Default Any experience with Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500?

I am considering the Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500's because of the ratings on The Tire Rack. Just wondering if anyone's running them. I had Firestones on my HHR (not this model) and they were death defying in the rain but lasted a long while. Looks like it is between these and Hankook's but the Firestones are rated better.

Tire Rack rates them # 1 overall. I'v had them on my 97 Silverado for 25k miles. They ride better than the Michelins they replaced. I'm installing them on my wifes car soon. It will be interesting to hear from someone who has experienced them first hand on the C5.

I just put a set on in December but only have about 500 miles on them. They seem to grip pretty good and much quieter and smoother than the goodyear runflats that I had. Thought they were reasonbly price also.

I've had my non-runflat Firestones on for exactly 2 years now - about 28k miles which includes dailydriving, 2 long highway trips and a full track day. They are about 70% worn now and have performed very well. I live in a warm climate so don't know how they are in cold , but I have No problems in rain. They are much quieter than the BFG's they replaced and have not gotten noisier with age. Ride quality is good and has not changed. They do not have as much dry grip on the track as the BFGs. Mine are C5Z sizes. I'll very likely repace with another set when they are worn out. (guessing about 35k miles). Considering their very good price, I'd say they are a great choice.

Had a set on my 02 C5 in stock size for about 1K and love them in terms of performance, plus I think they really look good!

I replaced my GY'S with the Firestone's and really enjoy the ride more. They are smoother and quieter. Now that I just put in an A&A charger, I might have to go with something stickier. But if you're stock or just a little power, they are great. L8R THE FLASH

I have a set on my car, overall I am pleased with them. The Firestones work well in the rain and after 2,800 miles they still look brand new. They are much quieter than the GY runflats that were on the car previously.

Had them on my WRX. Lasted about 30k miles. Pretty decent.

Hard to tell from the pictures on the Tire Rack but do they have that ugly ridge around the tire bead that sticks out like on some Michelin's, do you know what I am talking about?

My Firestones have the sidewall ridge. I think it is there to protect the rims from curb rash ?

yes - they do - but I don't think they look bad - especially as the
Z size wheels spread the tires a bit.

one thing I would say is that the Firestones have slightly less tread width for the same section width as some others. In my case I have repro wheels with a deep dish and a wider tread would stick out - as it is they are flush with the fender (at the top)

I work at a Firestone, and have sold these tires on multiple corvettes and have heard nothing but good things. I'm not a fan of run flats, so I'm probably gonna go with the Bridgestone Potenza RE760

Default Firestone

I have been running the Firestone's for about 8,000 miles. Just back from Florida, last Monday. We have ran in the cold, rain and some lite snow. So far I am real happy, I think this is one of the better tires that I have had on the '01 Z.

I like the way the lip looks... I think tires look cheap without it.

The Firestones aren't run flats, correct?

Still don't like the lip and I don't need it.
