Default The Power of the Corvette Forum

I just met a new Corvette buddy in England.

Kevin noticed that I lived in the same County and contacted me as he was having trouble with his fog lamps. After exchanging E Mails we thought the problem might be the fog light switch so he dropped by to try my switch in his car. Unfortunately it wasn't but it saved him quite a few $$$ for a new switch which wouldn't have fixed the problem in any case.

How good is that? Two international members who hooked up because of a post in a fog light thread on The Corvette Forum?

The amazing thing is that both our cars are Mag Red and almost the same age. His is a coupe and mine a Vert. I just had to take a few pictures to prove that Lincolnshire now has two Mag Red Corvettes.

That's great Dee Gee. Now you don't have to feel so lonely.

Minor question, but why do you have your front plate offset to the side? Is it a disappearing version?

Loads of Vette owners over here but just not many in this neck of the woods. I might even get to give a Corvette Wave

Yes it's the retractable type. No chance of running without a plate over here. It's a guaranteed stop by the Police. At least I can tuck this one away at a show.

So true Gene

No we didn't. The fogs light up when the switch is bypassed and we now know the switch is good. 12v at the switch. It has to be wiring from the switch to the BCM or BCM to the fogs. Its a tricky one. The trouble is, most of us had to modify our lights to pass UK safety/compliance tests. If the mods are not documented its really tricky to troubleshoot. I'm sure Kevin will find it soon and at least he can run a new wire if all else fails.

I noticed that your taillights and rear side markers are different. Which is "proper" for an export C5? Apparently your laws have some leeway when it comes to these?

The only rule is you need ambers and reversing lights at the rear. the Vette set up gives quite a lot of leeway so any combination works. The export model has ambers outboard and clears inboard with fog lights in the bumper. Both of our cars are US imports so it was up to the importer to choose. I went with two ambers each side and stuck with the US sized rear plate which is legal for an import. Euro Vettes have the longer euro style rear plate so no back up lights next to the plate. Funnily enough, we talked about the rear markers today. I thought I needed ambers but I guess its all down to the assessor who does the compliance check.
