Not sure but from what I have heard/read, it's never a good idea towing a Vette 2 OR 4 down. Like Mr. Bill says if it was me, I'd rent a trailer and eliminate any worries.

The hardest part of using a tow dolly is the relatively narrow ramps. The front tires may be too wide to fit properly. Check the strapping to insure that everything will fit and the straps will be easy to get over the front tires. The 6-speed is not an issue, just leave the shifter in neutral.

Also, most dolly ramps are short and the loading angle is steep. The chances are that the front bumper facia of the car may scrape when loading. With the front of the car on the dolly, you have to check to make sure there is sufficient ground clearance at the rear. The exhaust tips may be very close to the ground with the front of the C5 raised.

You will also need a way to get working rear lights. Some states may not allow you to get away with just the lights on a tow dolly. Some dollies don't even have their own lights. Obviously magnetic tow lights are out so that leaves trying to splice into the car wiring harness.

Frankly, I would not consider towing a C5 using a dolly. If you need a car at your destination and you travel a lot with your motorhome, consider buying a small used car and towing that with a towbar.

May be a PITA, but IMO it's worth it to not do any damage to the car.

The manual says not to do it. Most 6 speeds in other cars are not towable either. Evidently, they are constructed such that bearings on the input and/or output shafts don't get lubed.

In most states it is illegal to tow a rear wheel drive car with a tow dolly. U-Haul will not rent you one if they know you are towing a RWD car.

All RWD cars should be trailered for your safety and others'

What worth more to you, your vette or a trailer?

A dolly ain't going to cut it.

An aluminum car trailer can be expensive but is light weight for ease of handling and towing. Even a low profile steel trailer is better than the other alternatives.

Also doesn't the odometer roll forward if you tow rear wheels down? I would also be very concerned about the transmission lubing while in tow. 2 cents

You drive the car, someone else drives the motorhome.

Just plain wrong. Nothing illegal about it (how does the officer know if the car on a dolly is rear wheel or front wheel??) and there are some rear-wheel drive cars and many FWD cars that can be flat towed.

As far as safety, you evidently haven't noticed all the MH's pulling a vehicle behind them 4-down. With the proper equipment it's just fine.

I looked at doing it with my C5 but the front end would have to be badly butchered to attach a hitch. Also, the 6 speed could be a problem as many are not towable due to lack of bearing lube when being towed (the cluster gear isn't turning as in 4 and 5 speeds).

Manual states, all four feet off the ground. Penny saved, pound foolish.

Not withstanding the possible transmission/rear end damage. The car is so low, that with the front properly attached to a dolly, the rear will scrap on the slightest highway imperfection. Why damage a good car just to save face on a flatbed type trailer. Wanna see the type of damage you will probably get. Just search for the video of the tow truck destroying a Vette.
