My 2003 Z06 HUD bezel cracked recently, requiring a dash pull and bezel replacement

Is this a common problem with other C5's?

I understand this will typically pertain to the cars that are driven(40,000 or higher) and parked outside during the day(while at work, etc.)

I've never had that happen on any of the three C5s I've owned, but there have been a few posts here about that issue. Good to know there is a source for the bezel just in case.

I don't think the mileage has anything to do with it. It is most likely due to the ultraviolet rays from sitting out in the sun. The dash and the HUD bezel will dry out so they need a good coating of a top quality dressing used regularly.

My 02 has 60k on it and the HUD bezel is cracked. It was a Florida car before I purchased last year. I have had the replacement bezel for over a year. Haven't wanted to pull it all apart...

I had to take my dash apart last year to change the HUD module. As soon as I touched the bezel it cracked into a dozen pieces. The sun will turn plastic very brittle over time. I keep mine covered now out of the sun.

My wifes 02 vert cracked at about 30k miles and it was garaged everyday. I bought a new bezel for $28 thinking it was an easy fix..no. You have to completely take out the dash and I had to drill out the old bezel as it is locked with some kind of snap washers on tabs. If you replace it be sure to (don't ask me how I know) hook up the hud harness to the cluster, connect the hazard switch back, and the defrost sensor on the grate. We pulled the darn dash off three times that day.

I was checking out my HUD the other day and noticed under the glass there is a piece of plastic that is dried and cracked. Is this the bezel your referring to? If so I need one. I'm kind of unclear on your post though. Are you selling the HUD bezel replacement?

Well, out of the 3 C5s in my family, mine is the only one with a cracked bezel. I don't know if it was cracked before I bought it though. I don't recall because it wasn't one of the things I was looking for. (now I know!)

I'm not going to replace it any time soon. I have bigger fish to fry. I think the owner before me used to use Amorall on the dash and that dried out the bezel enough to easily crack it.

Sun has nothing to do with it. My 03 z had it crack sitting in the garage it's whole life with 13k miles. My convertible has over 100k now and never cracked. I am guessing it just depends on the batch.

I agree. Mine was the same. 03 with 19k miles and always garages. My dads hasn't cracked. It's an 03 with 80k miles never garages and the top is always down.

Mine cracked on my 04. One thing to consider is that the vinyl on the dash may have shrunk from the heat. There's the possibility of small gaps when replacing the bezel. If that doesn't bother you then all is good. Fortunately one of the techs in our shop is an ex Cadillac tech. He took the time to massage and modify things a bit to close those gaps.
