Input needed on new hood (OEM Style but Vented)
Hey guy's. I have an OEM hood just laying around so im going to put it to use. I was about ready to get the dremel out and start cutting some vents in it but decided what I may like others may not. I know there is no way to please everyone but I think if we can come to a general consensus as I do with most of my parts it would be a step in the right direction. I have had a lot of people ask for a hood that has no cowl but vented. I don't want the hood to be too complicated just something simple that looks clean and is functional. Anyone have any ideas on what would look good as far as vents? I was thinking of cutting into the raised section (center portion of the hood) maybe up front a couple vents that would kinda follow the body lines. Kinda hard to explain and im not good with photoshop. Anyway I was thinking if anyone had any good ideas I would cut out the hood and get the basic shape and let my manufacturer finish the rest. I would offer them in carbon and fiberglass and try to keep the price reasonably low.

Well, I suspect you can get as many differing opinions as there are people, so good luck. FWIW, regarding the ACP hood to which people have referred, IMO it's too much. Either the center louvers, or the two side louvers, but not all three. Just make them functional and suitable for any weather conditions. Good luck with your endeavor whatever you decide.

Hey Quik, if you consider that design as a basis, let me know, I've still got the hood sitting around if you want to see what the idea initially looks like (before glasswork). I've also got a bunch of the reference photos from that dude's original build of the hood saved away.

I really like the hood on the black C5. Very simple, but a nice upgrade. The slotted one just screams "RICE"! Like a typical rice-job, the designer didn't know when to stop. BTW, it'll take alot more than a dremel tool to emulate any of these designs.

Regardless, whatever you consider, if it dumps over the engine or any electronics, you've got to consider redirecting water flow or you're gonna fry something important eventually.

Thanks guys, Yea I definitely know it would take more than a dremel. However I would just get it started and let my manufacturer finish the rest. Keep the ideas coming

I'd like to see a hood like the C5R hood but instead of having the vents and the waterfall in the middle, just leave the waterfall and only put vents on the sides.

ACP do make a "World Challenge" style hood for the C5. Called the ACP Heat Extractor hood. The "RICE!" screaming louvres are there for a reason, same functionality as the C5R pictured.
You need to decide if you want form or function. There may end up needing to be a little compromise to achieve either.
Either way, be sure to test whether the final design actually works as intended resulting in extracting and venting out underhood air, not allowing air pressure to build up.
The ACP hood does work as these tests I did demonstrate. The style may not suit everyone, but the function sure does.

Opinion are just that-opinions and as the old saying goes "every one has one". I personally like the heavily louvered hoods. They do two jobs that the stock and unlouvered hoods do not do. The help cool the car and also keep the weight on the front of the car at high speeds. After the mods to the motor/drive train, the vert would get really unstable at high speeds. I put a Vis "extractor" hood on it and solved both problems. Front is rock solid at high speeds and cooling is much improved.

The above hood would have been my preference but I settled for the hood below because that's all that's made for the C5. The outboard vents are the ones that improve the stability and it's very noticable on straights and long sweepers over 100 mph. Motor runs cooler too.
