Will this make a difference on stock shifters or does it just help the aftermarket short throw shifters?

Both stock and aftermarket will feel a change.

Is this still with one washer or did you add the second one?

I am just using a single washer. I have tried 2 in the past and it was too loose feeling. Not enough feedback for me. Others may like 2 though. Its all personal preference. Its so easy to do and switch around to find what you like best.

I got under my car yesterday to locate the plug and the whole top and side of my tranny is caked in grease and dirt. You can barely make out the plug up there.

Is there a torque setting for reinstalling the plug? I did not see one in the procedures.

I looked in the GM manual and looked thru the entire manual tranny section. I saw no mention of the bolt at all. No torque spec I could find either. Just don't get on the bolt too hard since the casing is Aluminum, and the bolt I think is steel. Just snug it...

I did this Mod today and I can certainly feel a difference with my shifting, especially withe the 1st to reverse. My shifter is a C6 ZO6 shifter.

cant find an auto parts store with this part. I wonder if a hardware store will have it? Does it have to be copper?

I know what you mean I went to two different AutoZones and two Oreilly's neither had it in stock. The last Oreilly's I went to ordered it for me and I had it the next day. The part number is 65277.

Thanks for posting this! I have a short shifter in or '04 ZO6, and its so notchy that it affects the way I drive. I just can't seem to hit the gears clean, and I've been driving a manual in all manner of cars most of my life. So far, this is the only issue I dislike on the car...so tomorrow I know what my project for the day will be. Hope I can find the parts to do it!

I don't think it has to be copper. The copper one I used is soft though and I think the bolt makes an imprint in it (see pic). Better seal I think. Aluminum would be ok too I think.

Just finished doing this mod. It does help the shifting a great deal. I think mine is still too stiff, but am planning on driving it a week or so before adding another washer to see what effect that has. Overall, the best Mod for the price I have yet to find.....

Guys-
Autozone, Advance, O'reilly's all NG here- but good ol' NAPA---- 99c each no problem-
I don't know why I don;t go there first any more- always did years ago (but that was before all the "new" stores-
Anyway- with the MGW shifter it is a great mod- the shifter is now still short and firm but no muscle or tendon tearing on my arm anymore- (this from an old guy with 65 yo muscles and tendons)

Unrelated note- Advance Auto has online sale code "A123" for $20 bucks off any purchase of $50- and I was getting Rhino ramps anyway- so I added a PF46 oil filter to get the total list price over $50 and paid $36 for the ramps and filter. If I got the ramps only with $10 off a $30 purchase my total would have been $38. Ain't this a great country???!!!!!!!!

Toque, you are one awesome supporter. I installed one washer today, with noticeable improvement. I will install the second one and compare results.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and expertise.
