Donut or space saver tire for spare?
Is it possible that there is a space saver/donut spare tire that is the same height as the standard C5 Z06 rear tires available?
I am going to go with non run flats on my 2001 (with factory Z06 wheels and tires) and would really like to have a spare in the convertible. Out here in AZ cell phones may not get reception to call AAA.

Remember, you'll also need a jack and lug wrench. It'll be interesting to see what kind of jack you carry that will go under the car with a flat.

Yes it is the spare from the recent pontiac gto's. yes you need a jack but most jacks wont go under a vette with a flat. so, put a wood block in the trunk also so you can drive up on to the block of wood to give you space to get the jack under the car.
But, easier to carry a few containers of slim and a portable air pump. I've seen that stuff stop up some pretty big cuts/holes in the tires thus allowing one to get to a tire/repair shop.

I do carry two cans of tire inflator and plug kit but I have had a flat that was in the side wall and the slime, plugs or inflator cans did not work on it.
The car will be here this Tuesday so I did not realize that a space saver tire would prevent the top from going down. I thought there was room for the space saver tire and the top?
I found that if the flat is in the front then I will have enough room for the jack if I use the rear jack position and then lift the whole side of the car.
I will see what type of room is in the trunk for the top and spare and if possible get the GTO spare.
If there is not enough room in the trunk I will mount it on the hood like the Land Rovers do

Equinox space saver
Thought I'd update on what will fit besides the GTO spare.
I searched this forum for weeks looking for an alternate, but couldn't find any reference to another wheel. So, went to the Chevy dealer and started looking at wheels and calipers and pictures of space saver wheels on Ebay! Thought the Equinox spare might work, so ask the parts guy if there was one I could take home and try on the car.
It wouldn't go on the hub, but looked like it would clear the caliper OK. So I bought one from a GM salvage in Oklahoma City for $75. I opened up the center. It clears the caliper nicely without a spacer.
I am going to replace the tire with a Kuhmo T121 T135/90R17 tire from Tirerack. Diameter is 26.6", same as rear tire.
Merry Christmas!

gto spare and a fbody jack..fits perfect on the jacking points. I use to use 4 of them they have like a 19mm nut on them so I hit it with the impact and it raises the car instantly. it's like having a lift. less then a minute to lift all 4 corners and put jacks under...

OPne other thing to consider is having to carry the flat tire to some place to get it fixed. If the small space-saver spare is going to take up some amount of room, then figure on something like a rear tire/wheel is going to take up over twice that space.
If you are traveling and have luggage in the car, a flat road tire/wheel may not fit in the storage area. A fix-a-flat kit and a small compressor was standard in the Z06 so that might be the best way to handle a potential flat tire. But get a hole in a sidewall or have a road tire shred itself, and these kits won't help.

DO NOT use the GTO spare unless you plan on replacing wheel studs after using it. It WILL break wheel studs. GTO is 120mm with 14mm wheel studs. The C5 is a 120.7mm bolt pattern, and the hub centers do not match either. Might get it to fit, but it will not be right. Sure it only .7mm difference, but that is huge with the thousands of pounds of clamping force involved.

Also have a 12 inch double 2x6 "ramp" to pull up on and a low profile scissor jack.
