I don't know who makes the jacks for sears, but I don't like how much handle pressure it takes to raise a car. I have a habor freight jack, it works pretty good. I picked up a NAPA jack off of craigs list last year and sold that crappy sears jack. I'd do habor freight or NAPA.

I use a Sears low profile aluminum jack on my car. Works well, but I think a Harbor Freight one would do just as good and cost a lot less.

Ok thanks. I will be doing my brakes next month. I have done around 20 or so brake jobs. I use to work for Sears in the Auto center. Is there anything special about Vette brakes I should look out for? I will try the front first.

However, also buy some locktite. Before you use it, pull every bolt (except the one that says "do not adjust) and reseat them with locktite. Otherwise they rattle apart pretty quickly. This advice goes for almost any new jack.

I agree. I have gone through 2 low profile jacks from Sears. They are made in China. The Harbor Freight ones (also made in China but maybe one street over) actually have lasted me longer and were a quarter of the price.
Sad but true.

Just picked this one up last Monday from Harbor Freight. It's heavy at 100 lbs but it is very very low at 2 5/8" and lifts nearly 24" up. Also it has a T handle and a dial on the end to release pressure plus it has the foot pedal you can use to pump with your foot. The T handle also makes it very easy to "drive" around. A bit pricer at $129.99 but worth it IMHO.

Great thread as I'm been thinking about a Harbor Freight low profile jack.
Anyone use their jackstands as well?
Not going to spend Craftsman money for the name brand if it's made in China like everything else!

Some WallMarts sell the Black Jack, it is a heavy duty, low profile jack. 3 ton and 3.3-17.72 inches, with a turn to release handle. Only around $60. You won't be lifting this baby (80 lbs), but it rolls great.
Well, name change and now $110 !
