Default New Guy Here: Traction Control = WOW!!

I hope the day never comes when I have to sell this vehicle, but if it does I will not be able to say, "never driven in the rain".

Last night I intentionally took the vette out in a very heavy rain storm just to see how horrible it would behave with all that power & rear wheel drive. Well...as with every other single aspect of this bone stock vette I was just absolutely blown away!!

I did a couple of unnecessarily hard accelerations in a straight line and the tires completely held. I didn't push my luck with any cornering maneuvers but I certainly would not hesitate to take this out in the weather.

Don't worry, it will be washed, waxed, and sleeping soundly in the garage today.

The C5 will do just fine in the rain, but like any other car, just be careful as it still follows the rules of physics and can get away from you if pushed too hard when conditions are not the best.

Sure, I understand that but relatively speaking I believe this thing did very well in the rain. My everyday vehicle is a rear wheel drive 2008 Chevy Silverado that certainly can not come close to the vette's straight line traction & acceleration in the rain.

It's your tires. Sorry. Bad tires and even some brands of tires will behave poorly in the rain regardless of ah/tc.

But I know what you're saying. I went insane after adding the c6 zo6 swaybars. I scare everybody when I get on or off I95. Forget the 35 mph speed limit. The car carves around those on/off ramps at 65-70 and handles like a dream.

A car will last as long as you want it to. Hopefully you'll never be forced to sell it for other reasons.

I plan on keeping mine until I can no longer bend over and get in it or something happens I can no longer drive a manual.

Or we can't get critical parts.

it's the shoes !!!!!!!! trust me- when I got my car it had Yoko's on the back and stock susp. When it got cloudy I lost traction. .........ok maybe not... but TERRIBLE on wet roads.. over the winter I did some gofast stuff (hdrs, xpipe, tune,Corsa) lowered car added Z06 shocks and Z51 sways.and........................MICHELI NS ....PS A/S ZP- night and day difference. now handles like it should wet or dry- yesterday got caught in heavy rain on way back from our club show and just for fun got on it..absolutely no problem. also can now go around curves in wet without having to pray. now looking forward to occasional track days no matter what the w/x forecast.
Have fun, welcome and STW.

Up in Washington State it rains all the time and my vette is a daily driver. I was driving back from Portland Oregon at around midnight a while back. It was raining hard and had been for days. The ruts made by studded tires on the freeway were filled with water. Hydroplane central! The car would veer right the car would veer left fighting to keep the car straight the whole way home, white knuckle driving for sure. Under normal circumstances though I think the C5 handles very good in the rain given it's low stance and wide body. Sometimes I think of my car as more of a speed boat than a car with the rooster tail it leaves behind me. I love it!! I must have gotten a rare one, it hasn't melted...

I have the Michelin PS AS RF tires on my 99 FRC. Great in wet or dry, did a very wet, foggy track day yesterday at Watkins Glen yesterday....the car stuck like glue.

Default First Rain Experience

I have only had the car for a year, but my first rain experience occurred returning from a trip, while on the Tappen Zee Bridge. There was rain already, but the skies opened up and turned dark. Rain was so hard you could only see a few feet ahead.

Gotta admit I was scared, not knowing what to expect. Traffic thankfully slowed down, but I was surprised at how well the Vette handled.

Its an 01 coupe M6 totally stock even the tires are the GY runflats.
