Got pulled over for speeding tonight in the Z06
My wife and I were on the way home from a bar in a local ski town where a friend of mine was playing with his blues band. We were driving down a winding and hilly 2 lane country road when I got stuck behind a guy in a truck. I was behind him for quite a while and then noticed that the road in front of me straightened out and was clear. I dropped down to 4th and stepped on the gas to pass him. It didn't take long in the Z, as 'Vette owners are well aware. As soon as I got by him, my wife said, "You better be careful or you'll get a ticket." Immediately after she finished saying that, I saw flashing red lights in my rear view mirror. "I just did." was my reply.
I pulled over immediately and waited for the inevitable. The officer introduced himself, said he was from the Sheriff's Department and that he clocked me at 66 in a 45 while passing the guy in the truck. I had no argument with him because he was absolutely right. He ask us where we were coming from and I told him the name of the bar. He then asked me how many drinks I had tonight. Luckily, I didn't have any. He took my license and registration and disappeared for a few minutes.
When he came back I said, "Would you consider letting me off with a warning?" His response was, "That is exactly what I'm going to do. It's a Corvette and I know how much fun they are. Just take it easy from here." Is this guy the coolest LEO ever, or what? He could have really nailed me for doing 21 MPH over the speed limit and for not having a front plate on the car, but he let me go. I had the cruise control set at 1 MPH below the speed limit the rest of the way home.

Good stuff.
It seems like LEOs are more lenient with Vette owners (as long as you're not being wreckless). I've been let go a few times myself. My Camaro, on the other hand, is a different story, it's a speeding ticket magnet.

being a motorcycle event photographer for a local biker magazine ive had simular expirence. My mother was in a hospice home and I got way for a me chill out day to cover a motorcycle rodeo for some LEOs and the home called. Well i took off and got stoppped by 2 highway patrol BMW for an escorted ride nearly 100 miles home at about the same speed.....................no ticket since they knew what was going on. Needless to say the made the magazine story (just not this version!), photos and all!

Good rule of thumb is they won't bother you unless your rolling more than over 7 mph over the speed limit. Local judges don't like seeing those type of tickets in courts. Roll about 130,000 a year with the job and last ticket on highways I had was 20 some years ago.
They are stepping up enforcement everywhere so just keep it in the back of your mind.

Sweet - but it's true you have to go faster that the vehicle you are going to pass in order to pass it!
Good thing you were being cool and not flogging it to a 140 MPH
Thanks,Matt

Good ending to a great night! And yes they are stepping it up everywhere. Especially in Mass. We just graduated another class at the State Police Academy... BEWARE ON THE MASS PIKE!!! They are everywhere. I Dispatch for Bedford here in MA and they are stepping up as well.

Glad you just got a warning ! Nice cop for sure !
Reminds me of a month ago .... A guy I know got a warning for "double" the speed limit on a major freeway. The cop saw he had a commercial drivers license and knew it would be his job if he took his license. Needless to say the guy drives the limit now because the cop said he is in the system as having a warning ..
