How many of you make do with a 1 car garage? SHOW ME YOUR PICS!
I'm in the market for my first home currently, and one of the major drawbacks on a lot of older homes in my price range is that they only have 1 or 1.5 car garages. I have a winter car in addition to the Vette as well, so I would optimally like to find at least a 2-car garage. But, I'm wondering if I could make a 1 car garage work if I find a house that has everything else I want including a basement? Also, how tight is it to squeeze into an 8' if there is not even a 9' door?
Pics of your guys' one car garage setups would be greatly appreciated as well!

I don't have pics, too much stuff in it. I have a slightly oversized one car garage. Just enough extra width so I can line bikes, lawn mowers, snow blowers, race tires etc down the sides and still get in and out of the Vette. It is also just long enough to have a work bench at the end as well. With doors closed and the car in there, can still walk around and pull stuff out without hitting the car.
The Vette gets the garage in the summer, my wife gets the garage in the winter. My beater parks where ever I feel like parking it.
The Vette goes to offsite storage in the winter. I am lucky, a friends sister has a huge shop on their ranch they don't use so I get extreme low cost winter storage. Works out well for me.

I have made due in a one car for years. Engine changes to oil changes and everything in between. Looking for a bigger place now. Its actually much bigger then the picture makes it look, but still just a one car garage.

Many years ago my first house had a one car garage (basement) - and it only had an 8' door. I had an '89 coupe at the time and it worked well for me. My DD sat outside. If you can find a house with an oversize one car garage, it should work just fine.

So is it super tight getting a floor jack in from the sides? Is your door 8'? How tight is it opening your doors?
Thanks for your input, guys! Keep the pics comin'!

I have a 1 car at my new place after the tornado a few months ago destroyed the place I was living. Once I get good and settled in I am going to try and make something of it. It's long but narrow so It's going to be tricky.

Try and find at least a 9' wide door.
I used to have a part time job installing and repairing garage doors. Nearly all of the 8' wide doors would have damaged stops and scraped jambs.

And I complain about my 2 car garage with plenty of room in it. All of the "stuff" that inhabited the garage before the Vette came home is now in a Amish shed.

Vette is in the garage in the summer (daily driver outside), stored offsite in the winter (daily driver inside).
Bought the house before I got into doing my own work on the car, now wish I had looked for one with a 2-car garage.

that is the worlds smallest one car... By one car they must mean one smart car.

Bigger is always better but budget plays a big factor. I would go with a 9' door if possible. A couple of other considerations are: 1) If you can have a shed on the property, store all gas cans, yard equipment, bicycles, etc. in there = more room for car and tools in garage without worry of damage to the car. 2) A carport does wonders for the second car. It gives the second car a designated space, keeps the sun off during the summer, you don't have to scrape windows in the winter, and doesn't get taxed like other structures on the property.
My first house had a 1.5 car garage, shed, and carport which worked perfectly for two trucks and a large motorcycle. Wifey's Blazer and my motorcycle in the garage and my truck in the carport. Just some thoughts...
