Good Bye pop ups : Developing New Driving Lights
So I really hate the way my car looks when the headlights are up. The lines of the C5 are amazing with that sleek nose heading towards that wide rear. I have looked at all the fixed head light options but none of them really suit me. I've been driving at night with my HID fog lights and because they are set so far back the lighting range sucks. When I enter the highway or low light areas I am forced to use my headlights.
I took my problem to 3J's customs who informed me of these high powered LED's which project light in a cone style by ACS Composites. The issue is they only had an application for the Camaro's. He contacted ACS to see if they would be interested in developing something for the corvette. They jumped on the opportunity and this is what we came up with:
These are Hi Powered LED pods which can be configured in any amount of lights. I chose to do 3 light pods due to the space allowed with my vara ram intake. The construction is billet aluminum which is CNC machined to project light in a cone style keeping the beam tight when close to the car. These are black finish for a factory stealth look when installed: (there is no official pricing yet, subscribe to this thread about these Modular Light Pods)
Camaro 4 Pod Vertical:
We had to remove the front fascia to install them properly in the bumper shroud. We mounted the pods just behind the opening of the fascia in the factory black shrouds by drilling three small holes. The mounting bracket is adjustable for aiming so ones installed you may need to remove the bracket a few times to get the height right. Here is the finished product installed:
Looks sweet in the day time too:
LED Tails to match:
The light out put is equal to my pop ups, so needless to say "good bye pop ups"

Burning Brakes
Got any night time pics of the light output? How many lumens per LED?
Will they fit behind Z06 screens?
What splitter is on the car?
Thanks

There is a height requirement as well for primary headlights. The fog light area sits too low and does not meet that requirement.
I have 4300 temp HID fog lights and combined with my LED switchback corners, I am sometimes tempted to drive without my headlights on either and often do up through dusk, however I don't want to risk a stupid ticket or at the very least an unwanted pull over warning.

Well I haven't driven with headlights for approx 3 weeks now and cops simply don't notice due to the lights being so bright. I am not saying that you can not get a ticket or pulled over I can just speak from my experiences. I've driven through nyc bridges and tunnels which I've been pulled for tinted windshield / no front plate but never because my headlights weren't up.
I say its worth it to try it, in most cases the worst will be they tell you to put your headlights on.

Im sure the light quality of radioflyers is great but I'm not sold on the style of the shroud is a bit bland and Im not sold on the price. I've been looking at sleek headlights for the RX7 (very similiar front end to ours). http://www.streetfire.net/rides/1045566.htm
They can get a nice setup for around $600. I understand corvette tax so if a setup was made for $600 - $1000 there is a huge market out there.

I interpret these to be auxillary driving lights, not replacement headlights. They are just as bright as the headlights, therefore you're suggesting they could be used in place of the headlights. Just like the PIAA hid replacement for the fog lights, right? Only maybe brighter.
Do they blind or interfere with oncoming traffic? If you need as much light as the hi-beams put out you would need to turn on your pop-ups?
Another issue I see might deal with too many forward facing lights. Or are these considered as one light for each bracket?
I do like the idea, just have legal concerns.
Subscribed.

I'm Jersey, any chance of seeing these in person before purchase. I can meet anytime but a nighttime viewing would be good
