Is it me or is the local dealer crazy?
Ok so I have been looking into buying my first vette both online and around town... The other day I passed by my local chevy dealer and see a gorgeous white 2004 coupe with TR interior, 6 speed extremely clean and well maintained, no mods, completely stock with 18,000 miles. Righ next to it is a black 1999 FRC with 13,000 that has also been well maintained with borla cat backs and a hurst shifter but otherwise completely stock including the wheels... They are asking $31,800 for the '04 and $23,500 for the '99... While looking online at both KBB and Edmunds as well as on here and Ebay they appear to be 15%-20% higher on both cars... Is it just me or is this completely crazy???

Go for the FRC IMO... Great miles on it ( and the 04). I would think there was wiggle room on both. GL

Its the same here. My local dealer has had a 03 frc with 8000 miles on it on the lot since before memorial day and he still wants 29k for it. Guess thats why its still there.

I can't imagine what they offered the original owners for trade.
They're holding them hoping to convince some uneducated shopper that they are both good deals. $32K for an 04' Coupe? You could buy one new in 04' for around $40K.
Plus, with the inflated price, they're hoping you think you get a good deal after talking them down $2K.
In answer to your question - Yes, your local dealer is crazy.

Offer them what you'll pay. If they say no, keep looking. It's not the last available C5's for sale.

Definitely too high on the '04 - that's used C6 territory these days. As for the '99, that is very low mileage but IMO not worth that price. If you are interested, offer them less and see what they say.

thanks guys for the input... I LOVE the color combo on the '04 but I like the rarity and mileage of the '99 FRC and with the cat back exhaust it sounds great... but when I turned it off it had a "clunk" sound almost like it was wanting to keep running... asked the guy if the motor had been worked or anything and he said no... but the car runs excellent... haven't been back because I think they are too over priced and they are not one to budge much on their prices... Thanks again...

Keep looking, I only paid 29.5k for my 04 CE coupe back in 07. Original owner and only 9k miles. I thought that was a deal back then.
I'm sure someone will come along and pay that price to the dealer for either one of them.

Suggest you look-up local Vette Club & chat w/members as there is usually someone looking to move a vette. Most clubs welcome visitors looking for future members. Yes IMO the dealer is too high in the asking prices. Fall & winter months can be a good time to shop for a vette depending on what area of the country your in. Good luck!

lot of private party and dealers advertise high either hoping to find an idiot or to have wiggle room when the price talks start
personally, i dislike this practice as it makes a bunch of people just not even call you, they simply move on to the next car

but then again, that's just my 2cents worth. i bought an 04 commemorative edition convertible, 6 spd, mostly stock with just under 20k miles in feb. 2009 for 25k and thought it was a fair price at the time. (just for comparison purposes).

Are agree with the others on here. Keep looking if they won't negociate.
I ended up buying my FRC in San Diego at a great price and drove it back the Texas !!

Too high on both. Offer what you want to pay and you will be suprised as they will go down, no question. IMO about 8-9K overpriced on both. With what they are asking for on the coupe you can get a real nice C6 with low milage as well. Look around and do your homework, lots of good deals to be had especially once you start getting into the colder months. Good luck!
