Default MGW Shifter/Anti-Venom Mod

I have had my MGW shifter for a couple of years now and have been luke warm about it. It was better than the OEM, but only marginally better than my modded OEM. I read about the anti-venom mod some time ago, but didn't get around to doing it until today. After all, how much difference can a single washer make? All I can say is WOW! It makes a huge difference. Instructions for doing this simple mod should come with every after market shifter. Now the MGW is great.

If any of you with after market shifters have not done this mod, all I can say is do it asap. You won't regret it.

Many thanks to Toque for his great description. You can find them here:

Thanks for posting! I'm getting ready to do the MGW shifter very soon and I would not have done the mod if I hadn't read your post.

FORGET it !!! stay with the MGW.

The C6 Z shifter is mediocre at best. I only say this as I've had one and it didn't stay in the car very long.

I liked the mgw but then did the washer mod and liked it even more. It really is a no brainer mod for 6M owners.

I have the MGW and I have been looking for that M20 washer forever, closest I've gotten is an M18 copper washer.

I just went into Part Source and asked for a copper or aluminum 3/4" washer that is probably used for an oil drain plug gasket. He came out with a package of 2 aluminum ones. It cost $1 for both. I only used the one, and don't see any need to put the second one in.

I did the anti-venom mod about 3 weeks ago on my Hurst short throw. Who would've thought what one washer could do.

I bought mine at NAPA Auto Parts.

my MGW shifter was a huge improvement over stock, but once i did the antivemom mod it really smoothed things out. I highly recommend both.

Was hoping someone would ask what it is or explain what the anti venom mod is. Care to explain anyone?
