Default ideas on how to change look of HVAC controls?

There's a few things that make the C5 interior quite dated looking. Most of them you can fix (shift ****, seats, double din radio, etc.) but the one that I'm stuck on is the HVAC controller.

I've seen white LEDs in them which helps, but has anyone done anything more radical to update the look of the unit?

It's got a weird gray color that doesn't match the console, and the rounded buttons I don't like either.

Any ideas? (besides the add on chrome *****)

LED's are about all I have seen. You can do what ever color LED's you want.

Please don't add the Chrome *****...

Thanks!

Yes it was a PAIN to do and you must have some experience with electronics or you will damage the components.

I was thinking if there's a way to just put a flat overlay over the whole thing.

Like a laser cut plate with all new buttons and everything, just stick the whole facade over the controller.

The LEDs help but it's the gray color of the unit and the 90's GM rounded buttons that I don't like.

Toque your car is definitely a good template on how to update the car into 2012 but still make it subtle enough that it could've rolled off the assembly line that way. That's the route I'm going with my car too.

I was looking at mine and thinking the same thing i hate the gray! i did the led swap and it helps but the color and design scream antiquated imo

Would be nice if there was an overlay you could just put on the HVAC controller, but I've never seen one. Perhaps this is something one of the vendors can take and run with.

As far as I know this is the only example of this mod (I did it for the same reason you gave). Chrome ***** and all... The masking is a real pain..very detailed.
