Thinking about making the switch...
I know the C7 is not far away but I also know that I wouldn't be getting one of those unless I denounce my LEO status and go all Grand Theft Auto on the dealership!
That being said, I have come across a 2008 A6 Coupe 4LT for $30,000...White with a clear targa...two tone interior of course...and 28k miles...
So I'm seriously thinking about making the switch...
thoughts?

The C6 base is a nice car, But not for me, I like the lines of the C5 a lot more than the base C6, The C5 just looks so fine, Now with that said, If I had the funds I would have a C6Z in a flash and the C5 would be history.
Just my opinion.

so its that wide body that does it for you eh? i agree that GS's and C6Zs look better. I'm also liking the 4LT trim as it's leaps above my base trim...
I didn't think I'd be able to slide into a 2008 4LT anytime soon so that has my nose open...just test driving for now...i love how going in uniform sometimes just makes them feel more comfortable about simply tossing you the key fob...lol...i got the old "point & wink" followed by " aww shucks, we know where you work..."

I'm not even interested in a C6 anymore, cause of the cheap looking displays on the center console. Those retro looking read outs remind me of old pager displays in the early 90's. However if the new C7 is any better....it's going in my shop next year.

Not so much for the styling, but I'd want a C6Z for the 427 and the big brakes. There should be a steady supply of clean, reasonably-priced C6Zs on the market in a few years.

i agree with the display comment. A switch would happen almost instantly...thanks for the input so far...any folks who are Pro C6?...maybe the wrong section huh

I don't know that I am pro C6, but I think even the base car is very good. The 6.2 is a good engine and the A6 transmission is better than the C5's A4. I don't think the base C6 looks as good as the wide body cars, but tires cost a lot less (I know, I am cheap)
I expect I will get a C6 at some point, but I really enjoy my C5's. I like their looks and they perform pretty well.

That C6, especially with the 4LT package and a price of $30K, sounds pretty good. I'd say if you can afford it, make the switch. Not a thing wrong with the C6 IMO.

kinda of a bubble buster...not only did my blind self not realize that the whole interior wasn't TWO TONE...duh...i just checked the VIN and it didn't have the right 5th digit number for a 4LT or 3LT...???...it has everything listed for a 3LT plus the stitched console trim of a 4LT...hmmm...added options after the build?
UPDATE: i checked the RPO code sticker in the glove box and it is a 3LT with paddle shifters, the stitched leather console and steering wheel...the VIN decoder i saw was only for 2009 and up

True. IMHO, the C5Z lines are on the timeless side. Just dont see these cars running past me on the road much. Even when Im in my daily driver (Malibu), Im always seeing standard C5s, LOTS of C6s.As far as the C7 is concerned, in all honesty, I wanna see that sucker up close before I render an opinion about getting one. Financially willing of course. No more artist renditions or designers wish lists. My Z just doesnt give me the feeling Im driving an old car that i have to trade. People still gives me the thumbs up and the approving nods everytime Im driving it. And ITS PAID FOR!! Its modded enough for me to smoke most other rides out here. And if i did make a move, it would have to be a decent C6Z. No base C6 for me.

The only thing I liked better about the C5 was the price and the clutch. I like the looks of the C6 better, but there just wasn't much in my part of the country for sale at a price that was reasonable. Ok, they were out of their minds.
I like the interiors better, like the keyless go, much prefer fixed headlights, like the rear end better, etc. Was not so thrilled with the clutch in them but if you're looking at an A6, I guess that doesn't matter.
I'd say if you're on the fence, go for it.
ps. As to the retro displays, I like them as well. Much easier to read.
