Dash mounted camera? anyone use one?
I have been thinking of getting a dash mounted camera. There are a lot of crazy drivers out there and if any kind of accident happened while on the road, I would think a video would help out.
Does anyone out there have one and what brand do you have?
What could I expect for a length of time for a video? guess that would be up to the amount of storage.
Thanks

Driving on the left in England I've often thought about getting one and feeding it into my Pioneer AVIC screen. It would be great for overtaking. Sitting on the left I need to pull out slightly to see whats coming before I commit. A quick look on the screen would be great.
I played around with a reversing camera but the quality wasn't good enough. A GoPro might be a good idea

I've been thinking about getting a GoPro to fool around with, and make some videos using various mounting locations on the car. Have you played with it that way?

I use 2 long wire ties (or several small ones hooked together) to attach my point and shoot digital camera to the windshield mount for my Garmin. I shot a video of driving the track at Texas Motor Speedway last May and it worked real well. I expected some shaking since it uses a suction cup to mount to the windshield, but it didn't seem to shake at all..

I bought one off e-bay for around $35. It has decent video quality and comes with great mount. It takes a SD card and when the card is full it will overright and start over. You can also set the time increments that it will record. I set mine for 15 min.ie; every 15 min it starts a new clip.
Would not be without it now that I have used one.

I too am looking to get a camera. We have (employed by the city bus system) cameras on city buses and the video quality is unbelievable...you dont miss anything. I would like such a quality camera if possible. (be warned when dealing with video equipped city buses, the video quality is unbelievable, so avoid any confontation with buses or you will be defending yourself against this equipment. You lose!

I've had two close calls in the last couple weeks being cut off by drivers. The last time being a Mercedes driver driving down the shoulder of the interstate, forced her way into my lane nearly ripping the front off the vette. I had to slam on the brakes to keep from hitting her. Could have caused a bad chain reaction. She exited on the same exit as I did so I took out my iPhone and took a pic of her car, tag and pic of her. Because of her hand gesture's I considered it road rage and called the police.
"Because we did not see it" the officer said, you can file a report but not do much about it.
A video would fix that I bet.

I use a Veho Muvi. It will record in 720P and 1080P, among other things. The only downside is it will not record while charging, but with a 3-4 hour battery life, it works out OK.

I have a goPro and have toyed around with it. It works well on the dash but as you said the amount of video you capture would depend on the quality of video and memory card size.
I've also used it mounted on the door, I got a mount that goes in the door jam and holds it up so you get a shot of the left fender/tire and everything in front of you!! Similar to this video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qy4034JDLFQ
Here is a cool angle for those of you who like playing with the GoPro! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UV4A3zU7N28

thinking of mounting a gopro to my sub box facing the front, so i can see my speedo gauge. Because i live in south georgia and are cops are dirty here. last week i was doing 50 on a causeway in traffic. well i passed a cop as i changed lanes mind you i was behind a slow van and there was a car 3 lengths ahead in the fast lane . he pulled out and pulled me over.. thinking its for illegal lane change he got to my window and said i was doing 71 in a 50 which is bs.my laser det never went off, he wouldnt show me his laser and his window was up so he was not pointing anything at me.
