Air Bag Deployment
If anybody out there knows anything about air bags, can you tell me if you have a child riding in the front seat, do they have to weigh a certain amount to activate the airbags in a crash?. This was a question from my daughter.

depends on the car.....
on the C5 there is no compensation for weight of the passenger.... my 02 has the ability to turn the pass airbag off with the key in the glove box... i know some of the earlier c5's did not have this option...
when my 9yr old rides with me, i turn the pass air bag off....
there is information about this in the owner's manual also

Good question from your daughter. I'm glad to hear she thinks about those types of things.
Weight sensors in seats to enable air bag deployment is a fairly new technology and as others have stated, the C5 doesn't have it. In my opinion, it is always best to have young kids ride in the back seat (obviously this can't happen in a Vette). If they do ride up front, turn off the air bag if possible, make sure seat belts are fastened, and move the seat back as far as possible.

I think this is just her way of saying "Can we safely stop at Baskin-Robbins and get a triple scoop on the way home"!
