Mine is really bad.

It's worse as the MPG goes up.

Reality: 15.7 mpg

Car: 29.5mpg
Reality: 26.5 mpg

On my 04 when the wife and I did a 2435 mile trip last year, it was always within .1 or .2 computer verses actual.

I have found that the avg mpg on the dic is close, But not dead on, It is meant just as a reference and that is it, The only to get true mpg is miles drove and gals used.

My actual mpg is consistently one mile smaller than my DIC indicates.

My C5's mpg calculator is no more accurate than my 2013 Ford Edge's calculator - and neither one is very accurate. I frankly rely on it solely to tell me how many miles I've driven since my last fill-up. In my experience, actual miles driven divided by gallons put in the tank (calculated in my head) is the only way to reliably get that statistic.

on my 2001 a4 the computer is off by up to 2 mpg on tankfull runs but, on long trips >1000 miles if I don't reset it , it is within a 0.5 mpg

Mine always was too.

If it said 20 ave MPG, it was really 19 MPG.

The DIC mpg is a bit higher than if I calculate it manually - perhaps a few tenths of a mpg difference. Not enough to worry about.

I haven't done the actual math to figure out what my "real" MPG is but my car says I average between 18-19 MPG, which I figure is pretty good considering its a V8 with 350HP

But I hear lots of guys say they are in the low 30's for MPG.... not me, pushing right over 400-RWHP & TQ, I see my DIC says anywhere from 17-21mpg, and 21 is usually on CC on the interstate at 80mph, that's it. Calculating it, the DIC seems to be within .5

I don't get good mileage, I play with mine too much....

Mine gives .2-.5 mpg less than the DIC, close enough for me. 22MPG daily, where the '97 Coupe gave me 24, the 3.15 gears are the difference, maybe a little more throttle on starts too, 3.15's really wake up an A4 with torque management tuned out.

Mine is about 1.5 mpg more on the DIC than actual.

My normal driving mix has quite a lot of highway, so the DIC average is usually high 20's. Better on only highway trips.

That's what SHE said.

But seriously, how many other vehicles can claim they get at least 17 MPG while pushing four hundred rear wheel horse power??

Mine can be off sometimes, but for instance, here's a few I've had.

DIC = 22.5
Actual 22.61

DIC = 19.2
Actual 19.196

DIC = 20.7
Actual 20.32

If it's within 1mpg, and mine usually is, then I don't care. These do happen to be some good examples, but I don't think it's ever been off by more than 6 or 7%, and those may have had other errors involved.

I have spot checked it on a couple of occasions and found it always shows a mile or two over what I am actually getting. I keep a book in the car and log every gallon and mile that I travel. Overall MPG with the '03 automatic is 2 1/2 MPG less than I was getting with my '01 6 speed. The DIC always showed better mileage on both cars.
