As much as i love my vette and as much as id love to have a white z06, i would probably get the Cobra. It looks mean and has some serious power out of the box. The 01 z06 only had the ls1 setup not the ls6 setup. To me the 01 z06 is just an FRC with rear brake ducts.Id say Cobra.

Wow, how can you be around Corvette's since at least 09 and say that a 2001 Z06 is merely an FRC with brake ducts!!!!!! Unbelieveable

Let's see... A semi rare (based purely on the color) world class super car, or an aged, creaky rattle trap based on a car originally designed in the 60's and in one of the ugliest colors ever offered on a car? Hmmm...

i would say z06 only because you don't see them every day..like you would the mustang..and i know the one we are talking about is the CO cobra..but seeing in my neck of the woods every stop light you can count at least 5 mustangs..kinda takes the awe factor away when you do see a speical model of it

along with different springs, shocks, swaybars, transmission, rear end gears, engine, pcv system, exhaust manifolds, exhaust in general really. all the 2001+ interior features, but yes besides being mostly a different car it has the same frame as an frc

Most here would get spanked by a terminator thinking its just a "mustang" I would get a terminator in a heartbeat. You see vettes everday but not so many Terminators on a daily basis.

I bought my 2012 brand new for 25.8k after dealer fees. The GT would be almost as fast as a C5Z in a straight line and still handles exceptionally well for what it is. Not to mention it's a brand new car with far nicer interior.

It will depreciate faster obviously, but will be a substantially better value.

I haven't had the chance to push the Mustang to the limit in terms of handling, but I think my Z definitely has a better feel overall. Steering is more precise and has much more feedback, the Mustang has some gimmick adjustable electric steering which I disliked. I drove an older 08 GT and I disliked that one too. Seating position in the C5 is better too, IMO. Also the 5.0 seems to be tuned for lots of midrange torque and sort of falls short in the upper RPMs. As a daily driver that's good I guess.

Interior is equal IMO. Both are full of plastic. Have hated the mustang gauges since 05. Plus the base model only comes with gas and coolant temp. You have to pay extra for a oil pressure/battery gauge? The Z also has an autodimming mirror and auto climate control, although I don't utilize either of those functions. On the otherhand, Mustang has 2 functional cup holders. Overall though, when you're buying a budget performance car, you really can't complain about the interior. Everybody does about the Corvette but they don't realize that you get what you pay for. Cars with equal performance plus a luxury interior are 2x the price. Like the 911 Turbo.

All in all, both cars are a good value. Not sure I'd rank one over the other since they generally appeal to different people.

Yep. Either way, 25k for a car that will match a 2011 M3 in turns and pull away in a straight line is hard to beat.

Lol at this post. A c5 isnt a world class super car no matter how hard you try to make it seem like it is. World class super cars dont sell for $17k in todays market. Lose the fanboy perspective and come back down to reality. Cobras are SELLING for $20k-25k with 20k-30k miles right now. Downplay the Cobra all you want, it just shows youre delusional. Z06s are awesome cars, True. Terminators are holding their value STRONG. Alot more than c5z06s.

From an old guy perspective, given the original parameters I would take the Z. For the same reason I bought my 99 FRC. It's a Vette, and it is a world class sports car that is a real drivers car. While the Cobras might run circles around my stock 312rwhp LS1, it will never be a Corvette.

Z06! I have several friend's with 03-04 Cobras and they are awesome cars. They make some great power with little to no effort and they sound amazing but in the end its still a Mustang. I'd rather have a Vette.

As far as resale value, Ive owned two Mustangs (GT and Cobra), and theres no way a Mustang of any type will hold its resale as much as a Corvette. Insurance wise, Corvettes are usually better in that area too because most Corvettes are babied and only driven half of the calendar year where Mustangs are well known by insurance companies as well as most of the automotive public as being hammered consistantly as well as most being driven all year Also Mustangs have a much higher theft/collision claim rate as well. Im here in the Midwest whre today its blowing snow sideways with 13 degree temps and being outside most of the day today, I cant keep count of all the Mustangs Ive seen today. Lots of GTs, a Cobra, and the rest V6s. Havent seen any Corvettes of any yr/model on the road since the weather dipped over the last 4 days.

you'll probably be dead before you will see any real gains in value for either car.
