Melting Slicks
Cobra - msrp of $38,460
C5Z06 - msrp of $52,235
Perfect examples of each are currently had for around 25k.
Tell me which one held its value better?

Good point. Its really a hard choice but I sometimes like to take my kids with me so I pick the cobra.

It's more like
Z06 -- Sports Car
Cobra -- Muscle Car
Again, I've owned a few Vettes and I don't miss any of the Vette's I've sold like I miss my old Cobra. I regret selling that car.
My old 03 (won best of show at that show too )

Lol, first time I've ever heard of a Cobra being a "family" car
It's more like

While they are both great cars in their own right, they are terrible investment cars. C5Z prices are tanked. It will be at least 20-25 years before they begin to appreciate substantially.
The Mustang and Corvette are in different classes (ponycar vs. sportscar) - neither one designed to necessarily compete with the other.

Buy a z06 because it's a vette is horrible reasoning. I'm assuming a lot of people here aren't familiar with the 03/04 cobra and it's potential The book iron fist lead foot would clear some ignorance. I still love my c5 though, completely different cars, you're comparing a muscle car to a sports car imo

Z06 is a bad a** car! They perform well, can be modded for more power easily, and handle (with the right tires), like they are on rails!
A Mustang (even a Cobra), is still, well a Mustang. Without extensive and expensive suspension mods, they will never be able to track with a Vette, let alone a Z06.
Now if you can swing both, well that is a different story. I would not mind having a Camaro, Mustang, Challenger, and a Vette.
As an ex Trans Am kind of guy, now a Vette guy, I have to say as much as I loved my Trans Am, I would never choose any muscle car over my Vette; -- unless I had children in the house and could only have one vehicle. In that case, I would opt for the Challenger.

Burning Brakes
I cant stand Mustangs
The Z is more aerodynamic and lighter. The 2000 Cobra R does put up similar performance but no radio or A/C?? I'll smash on a Cobra while staying cool and listening to something like this:

that's a lot for a ten year old car with that kind of mileage.
yes i know the 90s mkiv supras are worth more and yes they are older. they are also low production cars with a following. the z only has the following part of that equation

Still pretty bad when I bought a 9 yr old Z16 that originally stickered @ $57k for under $23K that's sad for a Vette.

Comp orange terminator gets my vote. Find a clean coupe (281 made) and enjoy it. Cobra has obviously held its value better than the vette over the years and I only see it continuing that, especially with the C7 coming out.
Drive them both and see what you like better

Safety Car
did the supercharger just shut off at 150?
