Default questions about oil catch cans

Ive got spring fever already so I decided to go out and play with the vette and purchased a new high flow air filter, while I took the filter housing off, I noticed some oil in the front of the throttlebody, i know that most people recommend a oil catch can but I was on another corvette forum recently (I normally only go here for advice) but they all seem to think that catch cans are a waste of money and its normal for the LS1 to blow a little oil> Any thoughts on this subject

From what I've read they all do it. But that doesn't mean I want oil sucked back in through my intake. I installed a catch can and it seems to be catching a fair amount. Even if it's not getting it all there's still less going back in than before.

It is normal for oil to get sucked into the intake on a LS motor, The more spirited you drive the more oil you get, I have one and it works great, Normal or not I would rather have a clean burn than one with a bit of oil in it. I get maybe 3 OZ out of mine every month when I drain it.
You say your TB has oil in the front of it, I don't remember seeing oil in the front of mine, It was always after the TB on my car. Maybe you are oiling the air filter a bit too much and has a bit of carry over?

I installed an Elite Engineering catch can on mine last year - and it does work very well in keeping oil from going into the intake area through the PCV system. I figure the less oil into the intake, the better for the car.

If you ever pulled your intake manifold, dumped out the oil, cleaned up the mess, when you put everything back together clean, you would be adding a catch can. What a mess it makes to ingest oil.

I bought one with a clear bowl so I can see the oil accumulate and dump when needed. Got it from forum vender corvettemods. It didn't hurt the wallet either.

Bill, that's usually caused by having a crapload of oil in the intake. Park on any kind of incline with the nose down and the oil seeps forward of the TB.

If you install the 'oil catch can', will you have cleaner emissions out the exhaust? Or, just a cleaner intake and engine? Or both?
