Lesson learned...C5 seats are a PITA to ship
I had put up for sale a set of C5 power sport seats for $500 shipped thinking I could ship them via freight or large package. WOW- my cheapest quote to ship was $ 480 bucks to ship them. An that was to NY, I'm in PA and another board member was interested up in NY. I screwed up and did not do my homework ahead of time.

For those that have sold seats in the past- what have you done to minimize the expense? Did you take the seats apart or ship them with a particular carrier?
I can not see ever trying to sell seats or anything super heavy like seats with shipping.

I am afraid to say someone took you for some $$$$.
You can ship from CA to NY for about 160.00 sending them boxed and on a pallet.

REALLY?!!! WTF- My wife took one of the seats to UPS, Fedex and a couple of other places and they gave her these outrageous quotes! I did not ship them but I want to move them out as I am not using them at all.
Which company would ship at that price?

You should try to find a business that uses freight, i.e. dealership, bodyshop and see if they will do it for you and like wise you must have the guy you ship to use a business address. It's cheaper that way, otherwise if it's residential to residential you get the shaft.

Can you ship them from your work? I used a trucking company when I bought mine. The member I bought them from put them on a pallet and shrinked wrap them then I made arraingements to have them picked up and delivered to my work. Think freight shipment (18 wheeler) I also have heard you can ship them by gray hound bus.

We have different options we use. ESTES, SAIA are a couple examples
My wheels I just shipped from FL to WI mounted and balanced on a pallet were 120.00
We shipped a RK Sport hood last week from CA to FL for 165.00

I've had great success shipping large items via a freight company.
Out of Baltimore I typically use R&L Carriers. www.rlcarriers.com
I am sure there is a similar company near you.

When I shipped my seats I took them to the ups store and they packed them together in a box and it cost right around 100 bucks. I dont remember how far they were going though.

Thanks for the replies slvr..unfortunatley I could not ship them from work, I work in an office setting (HR Department) so the largest packages we send out are case filed. I have been looking at freight companies and possibly working something out with the company my father works for. They do a lot of freight so I'll see for next time.
I did send the interested forum member a PM letting him know the situation and that if he was interested I would offer to take off $100 bucks from the advertised price and meet him half way (124 miles for each of us). I haven't heard back.

It cost me $185 using ups to ship a set to VA fom Tx, I had to make the box I sent them in, it was a bit of a hassle. The buyer was grateful though so I'm glad I could help.
I wrapped the seats and stacked them with the seat backs facing each other. One box, both seats.

I guess when one doesn't deal with this stuff regularly-one can screw up like I did. Nice seats BTW- love the color combo- that would have looked nice in my car!!!

I just bought some seats on Ebay from a Florida used auto parts business. The seats shipped Fedex in one box - 88 lbs. Shipping cost to Washington state (coast to coast) was $150.00

Good luck finding a much cheaper place to ship the seats - $480 is insane.

Those sure are nice and look like they're for Chris, damn I wish I had those or his $$$. Now back on topic, you can also go to a u-haul store and get a wardrobe box and ship them that way too. Great looking seats Dennis, L8R ZFLASH

Thanks-I'm looking into it- they may have just given us regular package shipping rates rather than freight.
