Give a clay bar a try - won't hurt the paint and does remove a lot of contaminants.

For glass spots you can try using a pure paint polish, not compound. I have also used toothpaste and a wet/damp wash cloth.

Do not use claybar on your sideview mirrors. It will scratch them to hell. The mirrors are made of plastic, not glass. Be very careful using claybar on windows. It will work well, but its also easy to scratch the glass if the clay isn't flat enough, and window not wet enough. For the paint, I think claybar is a good option. It will remove all the bad stuff off the paint.

You can also try hard water spot remover, they sell them at home improvement stores to clean showers and whatnot. I'd be cautious to use it on the paint, because I don't know if some of the hard water spot products will hurt paint or not, but it would definitely work on the windows.

Mine are glass and my New Drivers side spare is also. I verifed this with my tongue. Glass will feel cool, plastic will feel warm. You can do this on the mirror and then the car body or anything else you know to be plastic so long as they are at the same ambient temperature. It is just a long time known way of checking wrist watch crystals.

I can't imagine they put plastic mirrors on any of the C5s, but I could be wrong. It has happened before and probably will not be the last time.

Try a Mr Clean Magic Eraser. I use them on my wheels for brake dust and it took some surface rust off my 'chrome' hoops last year.

I had some really stubborn water spots on my windows when I bought my coupe, and the cleaner for the glass top kitchen stove worked about the best, but there are still some light, residual spots if you look closely.

CLAY BAR I use it every spring on my GMC truck which is white and the spots are easy to see on white, some require a little work to remove but works great. I have tried the erasers but noticed they will scratch your paint. They do make clay bars for glass, I have one but never used it, the best cleaner for glass spots is Cerium Oxide which is used in glass polishing kits, I just wet a wax applicator and spinkle some on it and polish by hand.

Clay bar, just make sure if you drop it, to pitch that piece.

I have used a clay bar several times on my mirrors and it does not scratch them at all...not sure of the process you were doing there..and you can use a clay bar on glass..it won't hurt your glass in any way shape or form, unless you dropped the clay bar on the ground and it picked up rocks..lol..

For glass its hard to beat the way 0000 steel wool cleans. Wont scratch and I have yet to find anything that works as well or as quick other then a DA and good glass polish.
The professional goof off works great for stains without being hard on paint. Its the stuff in the metal tin instead of the little plastic bottle.

HANDS DOWN best way to remove watter spots on glass is this.

Go buy Wiemans (sp) cook top cleaner in the paste form and squirt it on some 000 steel wool. Work around in small circles as if you were waxing the car. It will dry pretty fast so have a rag ready to wipe it off. It will make a hell of a mess in white paste and small steel wool slivers but blow or hose it off and you're golden.

Both of these products work well by themselves but together, they are magic.

mr clean will mess your paint up. but it gets tire marks off the side of your car pretty well, i had someone hit me. simple green wouldnt do it, but it does clean brakes and exhaust good.
