That doesn't sound like you helped him out, it sounds like you f*cked him over.

1997 High mileage (186,445) $9,000 - one owner very well maintained, only needed an oil pressure sending unit, I'm happy.

We walked to the bank and transferred the money. No taxes because it was registered on base and we don't pay taxes.

Sometimes it happens. While it didn't happen to me, I was at one of my customer's offices (I do IT work) and somehow the conversation got around to Corvettes. When I mentioned I owned one, one of the gals in the office said she used to have one but sold it for cheap. I pressed for details and she told me that her husband cheated on her. She had filed for divorce and the car was in her name but the husband had bought and paid for it and drove it all the time. It was in 2005 and it was a 2004 C5. She sold it to a used car dealer for $3000. She didn't say, but I could still tell by her attitude that she really enjoyed pissing her ex-husband off by doing that... Again... just that rare occasion where being in the right place at the right time lets someone get lucky. <sigh> Why can't this happen to me?

I've been in the Corvette hobby for 39 years. I've heard variations of that story along with the "he died in Vietnam and they advertised it as a (insert year) Chevy for $500" at least 5 times every year since 1974.

That may well be true. I've heard those same stories. However, I saw her today and asked her about it again. She still has that evil smile when she talks about it. This one isn't some story of "I heard it from my friend's brother's uncle's cousin's neighbor across the street". The other gal in the office said she's told other stories of stuff she did to her ex as well. And I've heard the same stories as you. I heard my first Corvette stories back in the 60s bro.

Sounds like the story we used to hear in 63 that there was a new 63 StingRay that someone was selling cheap because someone died in it and laid in the car for weeks so they couldn't get the smell out of it . Funny thing was that anyone telling the story never knew where the car was.

Here is another one. About ten years ago I went to see a guy to buy a frame for a 69 Corvette convertible and I asked the guy what happened to the rest of the car and he said he and his wife were going through a nasty divorce and she took his chainsaw and cut the body up . I don't know if it was true or not but I was glad to find the perfect frame for one of my cars.

I paid $12k for my 98,69k miles. Belonged to an older gentleman (60's) who was told by a Dr. that he is not allowed to drive any more. He owned it for 7 years.

Of the 6 c5's I've owned my 2 best deals were

02' MY Z06 original owner car with 70k that I paid $17,900 for back in 2008.

99' Pewter FRC with 90k, 1 owner car from a used car dealer that I paid $13,500 for back in 2006.

These were my 2nd and 4th in purchasing order..

Happened to me. Ex sold my Monte Carlo SS for cheap just to **** me off. It wasn't the old 500 dollar story you hear of but it happened none the less.

It's no record, but I feel great about the deal I ended up with. I bought my loaded (everything but Z51 and sport suspension) 2000 coupe with 78,000 miles for $12,000 in '09. It's a rare color combo, too, Sebring Silver with Torch Red interior.
