Off to the DMV today for title, registration and plates...
I did a little research and I will admit I am dreading the visit.
IL has two schedules for used vehicle registration/sales tax fees.
Table A: Based on purchase price, above $15k the tax is $1200, below $15k see table B.
Table B: This one kills me. This one is based on the age of the vehicle. If I had paid under $15k for my car and with it being 11 years my fee would be $25, yes $25.
I don't mind paying what I owe but when the disparity is so big it's just a slap in the face. Let me see $1200 or $25...
I have an idea, wish me luck...

Didn't you pay $14,999.99 ?? the money you paid the guy above that amount was for cleaning and detail work he's done over the years to maintain it in the pristine condition you got it in, Right?

Wow, that's one heck of a difference. Good luck with your visit - hopefully you come out OK.

Good luck at the DMV. Going to the DMV in New York State used to be a real hassle. I remember having to go back several times to register a used car because I didn't have all the forms correctly filled out, and was missing a few things too. But things have changed here in NYS. Three years ago when my brother passed away I was the administrator of his estate. I sold his boat & trailer (which hadn't been registered in 10 years), his ATV, and gave his car to my niece (3 separate transactions) and the lady behind the counter actually helped me fill out the forms, and as a result, I had no problems with any of the transactions.

Up here in northern IL. we have the highest taxes, utilities and gas prices in the country. A real joy to pay. But our governors do make our license plates!
