Default low idle

Hey guys i need help my 1997 C5 when it is warm the idle in drive is at 500 RPM .
The car wants to stall when you take your foot off the gas when you come to a stop and the RPM goes down to almost zero then i comes back up to 500RPM.
Any ideas on why the RPM's drop off like that.

I have a 98 C5 and I have the same problem. When I come to a stop sign, I put the trans in neutral so the engine won't die. I have heard it might be a dirty throttle body. I will be watching this thread for additional help.

If I have the A/C on and come to a stop, the engine will die.

You have not said if you have any codes. If you have not checked, do that and let us know if anything shows up. Do it before you shut the engine off so if anything is there we will know what is H or C.

I had the same problem with my car and by some silly luck I checked the air filter which was filthy and now it idles at 750 rpm. Check your air filter, good luck. Rob

I have a Blackwing air filter. So I will have that cleaned and clean the throttle body and hope that cures the problem.

First clean the throttle body.
Have you had the battery disconnected recently? It is possible that the engine management system needs to relearn where the idle speed needs to be.
