Default Hood and Coupe Hatch Struts

I know my Hood struts need replacing on my 2001 as it takes 45 seconds for my hood to fully open, but I cannot remember how the rear window hatch struts worked when the car was new. When you pop the rear hatch with the FOB is it supposed to open "fully" or just an inch or so until you open it manually the rest of the way?

It only pops up a couple of inches and then you raise it up manually.

And the hood is the same. You've got some monster struts if it raises on its own.

Thanks all... that is what I thought. I have used my rear hatch every day for 13 years and I guess it still works as good as day one. Hood is a different story - still raises to full open, but slower.

I just replaced my hood struts becasue the hood wouldn't stay open and clonked me on the head when I was cleaning . . . easy fix - - about $60 as I recall.

Assume the rear hatch is much the same - - mine pops about an inch when the interior button or fob is pushed./

In most cases if the struts are bad your hood won't stay up, Never seen where it opens too slow.
