Default mobil 1

Are most of you using regular mobil1 or mobil1 ep?
Any thoughts on royal purple. Does anyone know what chevrolet
recommends for the new C7?

I use normal Mobil1 5w30.

I hear a lot of negatives when people swap to Royal Purple. Valve train noise becomes louder and gives reason to worry. I'd stay away from it.

There as a topic on this before saying the EPA has forced the oil manufactures to cut down on the zinc levels. Mobile 1 has a chart that shows the different zinc levels in its many products. I saw that their 0-40 mobile has more zinc. I tried in my 99 GMC pickup and it has quieted the value train knocking down. I was thinking about using it for my 2000 vert. The 0-40 mobile 1 is designed for European cars and does not have the GM blessing or recommendation. I don't know why.

It's all politics my friend. You can use any quality oil in your vette with no problems at all.

if there was one oil i would suggest someone not use it would be royal purple, especially in older cars. it's a PAO base which by nature shrinks seals. it's also the same price as redline which is a better oil in every angle and an ester base which actually has a minor swelling effect on seals

mobil1 high mileage is probably the best low cost oil. it's the same price as regular mobil1 with a higher % of zinc and phosphorus which are the main anti wear additives

api SM and SN are the epa oils and apply to 30 weight with the additive limits

m1 high mile is api SL which does not fall under the EPA neutering

I switched to RP years ago and have had no issues at all, I have never read anywhere where it makes the valve train louder, In my case going to RP my engine ran quieter as many have posted. I think the engine even ran smoother.
Just my opinion.

as long as it is DEXOS approved any oil will do. There is nothing in the owners manual about any specific brand but considering how cheap the mobil 1 is it wont hurt anything to keep using it. I would bet a months pay that 90% of all oil changes on this site are too early anyway.

Pennzoil Platinum and Castrol Edge are held in pretty high regard by oil people. Actually more so than Mobil 1. The problem with Mobil 1 is that while it's not a bad oil, it's not the oil it used to be.
