Default Looking for Mechanic in NJ that will fix seat Rocking

I just bought 1999 C5 corvette and the seats rock (Slide forward/Back) when acceleration/braking The Dealer said they would fix for me (I have in writing) until they brought to there sister store and they said it would cost 3000.00 to fix. I have seen this problem all over the forums I think the dealer is screwing with me. I want to find a Mechanic in New Jersey that would fix for a reasonable rate and I would bill the dealer I bought the car from.

See if they will pay you to do it!Tell them you will do it for $1500 and watch their reaction. It only takes an hour or so per seat. The hardest part is removing the seats from the car!

You better get them to pay for it first. The dealer will probably not pay for it. You'll get the "we could have it done at such a place". Take the car back, and tell them you don't want it. You have it in writing that they would fix it.

$25, a lot less than $3 Grand.

I also recently bought a 99 that the seats slide forward on acceleration and braking. I don't see a thread explaining how to fix it. Can anyone direct me towards information on how to repair this issue? THanks

I just fixed mine (this past weekend, '99 C5), really not difficult, just a bit tedious getting the washers' thickness just right.

I followed this description of the fix: http://www.lieblweb.com/rockingseatfix.pdf

Good luck,
Jerry M.

Good write up on how to, takes at most a couple hours on the first one you do. If you don't want to "make" the spacers, you can get them from the following for about $30. That's what I did and it was an easy fix, plus you get the tools to help you do the job.

When you do NOT want to do a job, price it INSANELY. If you do get it, it will be worth the effort.

Dealer would probably have farmed it out anyway.

My seat cushion lifts up 1/4" on acceleration & when I lean back.

I don't think this is rocking seat as the rails are tight when I removed the seat, is it?

Seems like recliner & cushion issue, not bushings in the rails..

Anyone know a fix?

With the seat out of the car flip it over and follow the cable to where it is attached at the bottom of the seat. My cable had slipped out of its mounting slot, pshed it back in and all was good, its been about 7 years.

Will try, but I thought that was for the seat back not for the seat cushion lifting up...

Let you know! Thanks!!
