Default Brighter Headlight Bulbs

Hey, everyone

I moved to a new job that requires driving an hour each direction - normally in the dark. My stock bulbs are not cutting it. While I would like to buy projectors, it is not in the funds right now. Is there a brighter bulb that will work with the stock housing and wires?

Thanks

Sylvania 9005 SilverStar Ultra will give you the best light possible without changing your setup. I ran them for years and was happy, but ultimately you will want to change it out for projectors. There isn't any comparison.

Best of luck,

I bought my projectors from JW Motoring. They were about $ 350.00 for the 55 watt version with the harness that allows the lows to stay on when I use the high beams. The light output is fantastic.

Just please don't get a cheap HID conversion that uses your stock lenses. You won't see any better but no one coming at you will see at all from the glare they make.

Default A cheaper alternative...

Driving for 25 miles before sunrise, seven days a week, I use brights that are modified (ridges cut on the bulbs). They are adjusted for driving lights
and not brights. Been working for over three years.

I installed them in my car and it was a huge improvement.

I also installed the Hi-4 harness from radioflyer that keeps the low beams on when you turn on the high beams.

Just about any of the mentioned bulbs will work and provide better lighting in terms of color and distance the beam goes out.

The 9005 bulb is a high beam bulb but the bulb can be modded to fit in the low beam position. One big problem with the C5 lamp housing is that there is no independent adjustment for the low beam and high beam. Many of the factory lamp housings had the high beam aligned so that they were basically useless. On my '02, the high beam pattern was a good 6' higher than the low beam at 100 feet out.

I bought Radioflyer's ACA Bi-Xenon setup and it made a world of difference. Not only the HID low beam, but the ACA housings have the low and high beams pointing where they should. This alone was worth the price of the kit. And the Radioflyer package included the relay for all 4 lights to be on when selecting the high beams.

The new kit he has out now includes HID lights for the high beam side and still comes with the 4-light relay!

Default Anyone smell burning wires...??

While well intended, none of these posts list the current (amps) that the various bulbs draw. The simple bulb replacements that I find in most auto stores never list the hot draw. I have no desire to toast my wiring- I have enough problems with the car already.

Spend $300-$350 and get modern lights on your Vette instead of the stock 70's tech crap lights. JW, Corvettemods, etc....proper Projector housings with 35w or 55w 5000K bulbs and you will have great modern lighting. Spending more can move you up to Xenon bulbs.

Your best bet for now would be to get out "Hi-4 harness" It allows the low and high beams to be run at the same time. It's also a component of all of our projector headlight kits so when you do have the opportunity to upgrade, we will credit you the difference on your projector headlight purchase:

http://shop.radioflyerinnovations.co...arness-003.htm

Another rather cheap way to get better lighting is to upgrade your fog lights to 5000K HID bulbs. Make sure they're aimed at 0 degrees elevation and that will help substantially.

Just placed an order for the harness. I have a Z06, so no fog lights.

Thanks for everyone's help.
