Default Headlight motor grindy noise

So I had to replace a right front turn signal lamp. With the resources I have when traveling I opted to go through top. To avoid having to deal with a hot bulb, I manually cranked open the Right front headlight assembly removed the 3 screws holding the skirting around the head light. I stuck my over sized hand and a bit bigger than would really fit arm down under the headlight assembly, and switched out the bulb. Replaced the skirting and cranked down the headlight assembly.
Now... When out to run an errand I turned on the headlights and when I returned, I shut them off. Except now there is this horrid grinding noise where the motor is still trying to run after the head light door is closed. It will run for a terrifying few seconds before it quits. I checked the manual assembly and the once tight **** used to open and close the door is some what of a free wheeler.

What happened and how do I fix it.

It would be nice for a change to have a few free days in between the nickle and dime crap.

Once again, Thank you in advance...

Does sound like the headlight gear has gone bad. Members have bought a brass gear replacement from Rodney Dickman. Here are a few files that might help you out.

I also have a couple more that are too large to post up as an attachment here on the forum. If you'd like a copy of those, just PM me your e-mail address.

The third Word doc. intrigues me. I am going to attempt this until I can get a rebuild kit or two on hand

My kit should be here in time for the weekend. These instructions looks like a piece of cake.

I even popped the ECBM out and will ship it off tomorrow hopefully my "Little Girl" will be back to 100%.
