My Latest Mod - The Garage (Pics)
After 8 years, it was time to redecorate the "baby's room."
We moved from Chicago to Florida in 2005 and purchased a builder's model home that already had a residential epoxy applied to the garage floor. It looked nice, however the cement floor had obviously not been properly prepped or diamond cut because the epoxy immediately lifted under the hot, rain-soaked car tires so I installed some vinyl floor mats to protect the floor. Over the last 8 years, the mats really took a beating and started to show their age.
Before working on the floor and in order to reduce the heat in the garage, I decided to tint the garage door windows and added some R9 garage door insulation. Thanks to Ed (Patches) for that recommendation as the insulation has really helped keep the garage a lot more comfortable during the hot summer months.
Florida garages tend to attract all types of wildlife in the winter including snakes, mice, rats, squirrels, geckos, etc., all looking for a place to nest, so I decided to get everything I could off of the floor in order to try and eliminate as many potential hiding places as possible.
I also decided to install some Flexco TP Rubber baseboard to clean up the look and to help bridge the gap between the new floor and the bottom of the walls.
Next, I pulled out the mats and cleaned up the floor underneath.
The floor cleaned up pretty well and I was impressed with how well the epoxy held up in the areas that didn't originally lift.
After sanding and re-applying the epoxy in a few spots, next up was the installation of the new floor - Racedeck Free Flow!
Supplies and tools used:
Installed:
I went with their black, beige and graphite Freeflow colors. A few close ups.
The "Queen" approves.
Other "mancave" stuff...
Nearing the end of the project, the OCD really kicked in...
BTW - My neighbors used to tease me about how clean my garage was. Now they hate me!

MSG,
Absolutely gorgeous. I love the floor and your diecast. I was drafted by the White Sox almost 24 yrs ago by a scout from your neck of the woods in Sarasota.
I have a new room for my baby but it is not anything close to yours in terms of decor or flooring. I will post pics soon. My favorite part of my new garage is parking the Blue Angel squarely in the middle of the two car garage and not sharing!!

I wish they would have stayed because I love the renovations to Ed Smith Stadium. The Orioles have done a nice job.
About a case over the entire project. The hardest part was probably cleaning the floors after I removed the mats. That and hanging the ceiling storage units as any type of work where you use your arms over your head is a PITA.
The easiest (and most fun) part was installing the wall baseboard trim and the Racedeck tiles. Easy cuts with a jigsaw or utility blade.
I'm working towards a C7Z stable mate in a few years so a 4-post lift would be the next major addition. The garage is usually packed pretty solid with two cars and an SUV.
Thanks for all the kudos guys!
