Default Nasty deed ...

After 16 years of employment with the company that I helped start ....I was laid off yesterday .... Funny thing happened while sitting in this meeting , I guess that they thought I would be upset with their move in their new direction , when asked if I had anything to say ., I said no not really since being here I've bought and paid off a house but most of I bought and paid for the car of my dreams ... You two have a great day !
And Merry Christmas to you and your families ....

Some would have gone home and got a gun.

You do have a lot to be thankful for and if you have your health...family who loves you then you are a lucky man. And something better is coming your way. Merry Christmas.

WOW. Good luck. That's the way companies are these days. Same thing happened to my wife. They packed up her stuff in a box and had all the managers fired together. At least they gave her a year severance package. She took it hard . She didn't have a chance to say goodbye to her friends.Merry Xmas to you and your family ...

Oh my goodness James. This is horrible news. You will definitely be in my thoughts this Christmas and I hope something comes along asap. Big ups to you for your very positive reaction. I don't know that I would have been as big of a person.

They say "all things happen for a reason", it wasn't your doing that cost you your job.....someone will get a good person when you land on your feet. Good Luck & Merry Christmas.

Doesn't say much for the people you were working for/with. I feel like you have skills though that will serve you well. Enjoy your new free time with your family this holiday season and look forward to the opportunities of the new year!

Every thing happens for a reason.
I am sure better things will come your way.
When you reach that turn in the road I am sure you will take the right path.

So use this opportunity to start a new business and poach all the clients from your old gig. Turnabout is fair play.....you'll be successful!

Best of luck to you for your future endeavors.

I had a similar situation happen to me me several years ago (2 jobs ago) with the startup I helped build and owned part of - they had me make a choice to stay or leave under their terms, so I left. What I found is I ended it in a much better place and they are still struggling as a small company, making the same bad business decisions that made me decide to leave in the first place.

Remember - one door closes and another opens. You've got the right attitude walking out of there with a positive attitude and starting fresh elsewhere.

God bless and Happy Holidays!

I can't even begin to imagine what that would be like. I was blessed to work in a profession for nearly 37 years that I loved and looked forward to going to every day. I think sometimes there's a reason for things like this to happen, and hopefully you'll find something even better in the near future. God Bless

That absolutely sucks!

This economy is far from "recovered" and it is precarious out there.

It is easy for me to say, and a lot more difficult for you to concur right now, but as one door closes another one opens.

I was laid off from my executive job of 17 years on the day before Thanksgiving 2009 with no warning, no severance, no retirement, no nothing. It is tough, and after frantically searching for work for over 18 months I finally found full employment again. The pay is half what I was used to, and the hours are equally long. America is going through immense changes, none of them any good.

Hopefully you can enjoy yourself over the Christmas/New Year period and then regroup and hit the streets in 2014 and find something even better than you had.

Good Luck

Wow James sorry to hear. That is really classless to do something like this to an employee before Christmas, especially to a person with 16 years invested. I have to admire the way you handled the situation though. I wish you the best and have no doubt that you will end up much better off in the short term. Best to you and your family and please enjoy the Holiday season. Merry Christmas!

Mike

I was "laid off" 5 times throughout my 50 year working career (I'm now retired). However every time I was laid off and out of work, I managed to better myself at my next job. You have to view your situation as an "opportunity". Good luck to you.

Yes! This is good advice if you're in a position to take it. My son-in-law did this 10 years ago when his place of employment went sour. He woo'ed their biggest client away, his business has grown like topsy, and he's never looked back. He works like a dog, but he's excited about his work and is making a very good living for my only daughter and my only granddaughter.

You're a cabinet maker and a wood wright? What a great profession! You and yours won't starve.

Good luck to you. What a great opportunity! Show 'em how it's done!

Gunny John
