Default C6 base wheel to a C5?

I'm really sorry to have to ask this question, as I know I've seen it before...and in fact think I know the answer. I couldn't find it in a search, but I have some data from 8Vette7...

"Backspace/offset dimensions are as follows:

C5 (coupe/vert):
Front 17x8.5", 58mm offset = 7.03" backspace
Rear 18x9.5" 65mm offset = 7.81" backspace

C5 Z06:
Front 17x9.5", 54mm offset = 7.38" backspace
Rear 18x10.5", 58mm offset = 8.03" backspace

C6 (coupe/vert):
Front 18x8.5", 56mm offset = 6.95" backspace
Rear 19x10", 79mm offset = 8.61" backspace

C6 Z06 and C6 GrandSport:
Front 18x9.5", 40mm offset = 6.82" backspace
Rear 19x12", 59mm offset = 8.82" backspace"

All that being said, is it feasible to purchase rims from a C6 narrow body (base) and install on a C5 coupe? Using the offset calculator and the specs above comparing a C5 coupe to a C6 Base, it shows the front fitment should be fine. The rear fitment however pushes the inside edge 20mm closer to the strut and 8mm retracted from the outer fender. So I would think I would need a spacer to push them back out flush with the fender and prevent from rubbing.

I'm trying to open up my options for new wheels on the C5 so started looking at what fits a C6 base too. I suppose what really matters is the offset of the particular wheel I am looking at, since the offsets above are based on OEM specs and aftermarket may not necessarily have the same specs. Guess I just need some validation of my thoughts.

Thanks guys. I think I need to clarify...I don't want C6 OEM rims or even ones that are C5 spec and look like C6 style.

I'm looking for a more upscale look, like a multi-piece forged. Due to the expense of buying something like this new, I've been hawking the classifieds and such for a used set. Seems the C6 guys have more options and tend to buy these styles of wheels more often than the C5 guys, so I'm trying to do my due diligence now to understand what works in case I find something on the C6 section and need to jump on them. Offsets seem to be the major factor, so I think I just need to keep using the offset calculator to understand impact based on what is out there. Rim width from a narrow body shouldn't be an issue. It's when you jump to the Z06/GS/ZR1 trio that gets you into the 12" width. I'm not planning to tub or flare my coupe.

As for what I can live with...very picky for this expensive of a purchase. I consider wheel purchases once and done. So I might be okay with a slight tuck, but absolutely NO poke!

Just for the heck of it, I dropped in on the C7 forum...Here are their specs

Base Model:
Front Wheels: 18" x 8.5" +56mm
Rear Wheels: 19" x 10" +79mm

With Z51 Package:
Front Wheels: 19" x 8.5" +56mm
Rear Wheels: 20" x 10" +79mm

Interesting...same as C6 coupe/vert. Lots of C7 OEM rims for sale.

Yes thank you, width is certainly important too. Didn't mean to gloss over that fact. I'm just used to seeing 8.5" - 10" in fronts and 9.5" - 11" out back and know all of those have been used on C5s succesfully. So per your suggestion, I'll continue to use the offset calculator to mock up the two "ingredients" and see what works.

You lost me with using the C5Z06 specs though. Looks like compared to my current coupe specs, I'd be pushing the both front and rear closer to the struts (6mm and 9mm respectively) and pushing the wheel out to the edge of the fender too much (17mm and 20mm respectively). I'll have to check my car again, but I didn't think I had nearly 3/4" in the rear to give.

Got it, thank you for the extra info
