The wife's '03 goes to zero after every fill up. Have tried Techron with no luck. Gauge comes back with in the first 5 miles or so and is fine until the next fill up. Has done this since we bought the car. Until it fails completely I'm not going to worry about it. That is the only thing wrong with this car electronically or mechanically for that matter. I think I can live with it.

It's interesting to hear where in the tank cycle people are having problems. When mine errors it usually errors at half tank. Some errors at gull tank. Depends which sensor is missing I suppose.

I think someone has already mentioned this but it bears repeating again---
Oriellys has Techron on sale as a buy one, get one free on either the 12 oz or the 20 oz bottles. I stopped off today and bought 6- 20 oz bottles for 40.00. ( it says a limit of two but they just did two transactions). I'm good for a while

I had the same problem on my 03 Z06, did the 20 ounce Techron treatment on a 1/4 tank of fuel ( additive must get in both tanks as my understanding goes ) and fixed it in the first treatment (34K miles). Since I moved to Destin Fl and my Z is no longer a DD(since I can walk to work) my only fill up here in the last 5 months came at a locals station that caters to boaters in that they have a 92 octane fuel the is 100% no ethanol. Can anyone chime in as this might mean no more gauge issues ?

You only filled up once in the last 5 months?

Yep lol, we moved from Nashville to Destin in early November last year. 445 miles and the Z got here with a 1/8 tank left left. I work 6/10 of a mile from home so I walk, I only get the car out on nice days. Have only put 120 miles on it during the winter( but the mods have been on going). It got down to freezing a couple of days here hear it was the coldest winter here in 20 years lol.

But I think that you forgot to mention that he could also try some Techron.

Had this problem from Day 1 on my 98 C5. Tried Techron, made no difference. Turn the car off and on again and the problem goes away for a while. It was not permanently fixed until 2006 when the dealer reflashed the computer with updates. Has not happened since. I still chuck Techron in occasionally, mainly 'cos I typically run cheap gas - Costco or supermarket "off brand" - plus of course Costco regularly puts Techron on sale.

My car did exactly as you described in your original post when I bought it last year, I added one bottle of Techron at each fill up for the next 3 fill ups of 91 Chevron gas and "knock on wood" it hasn't done it since! I was very skeptical but it has worked for me. Are you going on the syndicate run next Saturday?

Default My Fuel Gage Issue

I feel really late to this problem after reading all the replies. I bought a 2002 6 speed vert. C5 with only 35k yesterday! Within 50 miles the gauge went to total empty and hasn't moved no matter the real amount of gas in the tank. My check gauges light came on and I get a low fuel warning in the display. I'll start the techron today.

It took many bottles of Techron through my 01, but it's good now. Also, I could always just reset it using the diagnostics. I got so I could reset it almost blindfolded.

Techron is not a fix. Get the computer up to date and then try. Re-flashing solved mine 100% - has not re-occured since 2006!

Was a regular problem before that despite a ton of Techron.

If I have to go with a sending unit replacement, can I install the 2003-2005 sending units. I understand from some of your replies above that these later units are better than the 2002 and earlier, and I can find more of the later units as well.

What if your gauge shows half full , but it is full. And my read out says I can go 136 miles on the fuel in the tank?

I agree. Regardless of the amount of Techron or Seafoam added to my 2000 Coupe, the problem always comes back. In fact, neither has solved the problem even temporarily in over a year. I can clear the code and the gauge comes back immediately.

However, I've also had the car run out of gas after doing this when the gauge showed just under 1/2 tank. When I filled it, it would take only between 9 and 10 gallons. The jet pump was the likely culprit because this could cause fuel not to be drawn from the passenger side tank. Even if I get the firmware flashed (and I will), I'm going to have a very hard time trusting it and letting the gas get below 1/2 tank.

Best of luck!
Chas.

Pulled my sender, did the old eraser trick on it with a pencil, tweaked the arm for better contact, and Viola....never happened again.
