Default Need Help With ABS and Traction Issues

The last couple of time I have driven the car I have been getting the ABS light, but it would go away when the car was restarted. I figured I had an issue coming. Today, The ABS light came on then follow by the traction light. It would not reset as the ABS did in the past. Any help in trouble shooting would be greatly appreciated. The year model of my car is a 99 FRC

Pull your codes, That will tell the whole story, Hope it isn't the EBCM, They are no longer available for your year and not repairable.

You might need to check the connectors at the wheel hubs, they can get loose or just need a good cleaning. I had the same problem on my 99, usually happened after I hit bumps in the road which would throw the lights. But, it could also be what Bill mentioned.

I have the same problem, the ABS and Traction Code comes on from time to time. It is the module that is giving off a false reading. It happens on these cars, the ABS is probably working but it will read not working. But check the codes as mentioned above.

I had the same problem. Intermittent TC and ABS warnings. They would clear after driving a short distance, but then reappear in another few days. Finally, they stayed on. After searching this forum, I decided that the most likely culprit was the Traction Control Module (TCM). If you go to the dealer for this problem, it will run between $1500-$4000 !! It's an easy DIY fix, six bolts and unplug 2 wiring harnesses, and the cost is around $60. PM me and I'll give you the name/address of the place that fixed mine.
Here is a link to look at to give you an idea of what is entailed.

I pulled the codes today. Initially I had these codes.
TCS: C1243H,TCS 1255H,
BO-RFA: U1096H,U1064H,U1016,U1255
58-SDM: U1096H
AO-LDCM: B2282H,B2284H,U1064H
Al-RDCM: B2283H,B2285H,U1064H

I reset them all and then started the engine and right away I got Service Traction System warning and light, The ABS Service warning and light.

Pulled the codes again and only had these codes.

TCS: C1243H
BO-RFA U1096H,U1064H and U1016H

Tomorrow I will disconnect the electrical plug at EBTCM and clean it. Maybe with a little luck it will solve my issues. However, I'm preparing myself for the worse. Last year I came across a used but supposedly in good working condition EBTCM for $150. knowing these things are difficult to find I decided to take the chance that it will work and purchased it. My car does not have Active Handling.

I would get the occasional warning. I cleaned them and it hasn't come back in a year.

Check with a bigger GM dealer that sells a lot of parts. These dealers usually have the VPP (Vintage parts program). There supposedly is a stockpile of these, but only available to the dealer to install/replace, not sell.

Dale is this your daily driver or dose she sit a while between usage? my 98 would only get driven every so often. And she would trip the ABS/Trac light when I would take her out, after messing with it. I finally figured out the low battery voltage would drip just enough to trip false codes. I now keep a battery tender on her. She has not tripped the MIL for several years. just a thought!

I played with the system today. Found ground to be ok as per the service manual. While car running, I cleared the codes and the warnings return immediately. I ran the codes again, but this time the only code showing was 1243H. I reset it again, but This time just after I reset it I turn the traction switch in the center console off and the only warning was traction control off. I then switched the traction back on, the light and warning went off and the code did not come back. As it stands right now I have no codes. lights or warning messages. I will take it for a cruise later today to see if the warnings returns.
