I've tried all of the above and others and have found Mothers 3R to be the best by far. It stands for Racing Rubber Remover. Spray on and wipe off and no residue!

Kerosene works great too. Whatever you use just hit it with a coat of wax after. No matter what you use, I figure if it can take off tar you can bet it took off any wax with it.

Another vote for WD40. Removes adhesive and decals too.

I've used Naphtha for years. It doesn't hurt the finish and cleans it squeaky clean. Or, use Ronson cigarette lighter fluid, it's actually pure naphtha. Naphtha is also the same chemical dry cleaners use to clean clothes. Most any hardware store carries it except in California.

I've used both Bug and Tar Remover and WD-40. Both work well.

+1. I use kerosene because it's already in the shop. I soak a rag, wipe it on, wait a few minutes, and wipe off with a clean soft towel, then apply a LSP in the area for protection. For the really stubborn tar (usually the bottom of the rockers), I use the edge of an old plastic credit card and gently 'scrape' the softened tar up and then wipe it clean.

Thanks guys. I tried Turtle Wax tar & bug remover but it didn't seem to work to good. Then tried Tarminator and was very happy with the results. Seems to work almost as good as the old fashion way of using gasoline or kerosene.
