Z or not to Z
I have a few cars I'm looking at and am trying to make a decision on what to buy. For around 18-20k I've found a high mileage (80k) 03 ZO6, a nice 02 coupe with 50K & a 99 FRC with 34k miles. Is the Z worth the extra mileage for a car I plan to keep for years to come? I like the FRC but some have said to buy 2001-2004 years. The coupe is CLEAN & lowest price. Thoughts from guys that have owned several vettes appreciated!

Earlier generations had some minor bugs that were worked out later on in the years. if possible, try and find an 04 Z with low miles.
And congrats in advance.

Either the 02 or 03 would be a better car than the 99, I'd personally go with the Z, doubly-so if that Coupe is an Auto . I've got an 01 Z DD and a 99 Coupe getting prepped for the track, the Z is pretty great in stock configuration but I've had to touch pretty much every part of the 99 to get it near that level.

Thanks guys, I should mention that 20k is my budget. Finding a Z under that with under 80k miles is pretty tough. For a daily driver is the Z that much better? I have no plans to put the car on a track. My last vette was a 94 coupe so that's all I have to compare to.

02 coupe, but Z choice is yours! (sorry)
Please put your location in your profile- then forum members can let you know about Z's in your area.
Good luck-

If you plan on keeping it, buy the Z, the values of coupes are crap and the Z keeps holding there value even with high miles. keep in mind these engines will go forever with no issues.
I picked up a CLEAN 2002 Z with 89K and the only difference between below 20K and 25K+ is miles...If you plan on keeping it pick up a clean Z with some miles on it and be happy.
The Z's out there with 20K miles are not worth 25K+, its the same damn car with less miles, you can buy a Z with high miles that is in great shape for around 18K and if something does go wrong you can put 3/4 thousand in the motor and make it even better and still be cheaper the the guys trying to sell there garage queen.
I have seen some Z's that are bone stock and have 10K miles on them and there trying to get 30K+

If you are not going to do any modifications to it I would say get the Z06 but if you are going to keep it and modify the suspension and do some minor motor work ... then get whichever one you feel most comfortable with.

But if you are choosing between a manual coupe or z then the z wins.
Nothing beats a vert....unless it's a vert z

I'd go with the coupe if it were me, but any of those will work just fine for a DD.

Which body style do you prefer a coupe or a FRC. Which is more important having a open roof or more horse power. I would get the low mileage coupe but that because I like coupes over FRC. You need to provide a little more information on whats on your wish list for a vette.

What are the insurance difference between the coupe and "Z"? When we were looking for our 1st vette last year insurance was a concern since we already insure 7 vehicles which 3 of our already sticks so I didn't rally care if the vette was auto or stick at that point in time condition, mileage and price were the concern and was very happy with what we found but I have been thinking of looking for a "Z" in the near future to add to the collection.

I just pike up a Z06 and love it
There has certainly been expenses since the purchase and I'm not even modifying it. I have an appt at ECS to get the valve springs changed, you'll want to do that. My car had the original GY's on it, those have since been replaced. Also, I'm changing most of the fluids out. Even at 17k miles, the brake fluid was black and the oil hadn't been changed in 3 years. I guess my point is, you'll be spending some significant dollars after the purchase, you'll want to account for that.

If on a cool night or nice sunny day you won't see yourself saying "I wish I could take the top off" then get the Z06, if so get the 02 Coupe, you can always put a few thousand in it to make it just as quick as a Z06 and have more space and the ability to take the top off.
