Would you trade your C5 for a C2 for a year?
If you had a buddy that had a C2 corvette and he wanted to swap you for your C5 for a year, would you do it?
Let's say his C2 had all the basic options that your C5 has. If you have a base corvette then you drive a base C2, if you have a hot rod corvette then you drive a hot rod C2.
Clearly some of the options you have now will not be on the C2 so work with me on this.
You would drive the car as much as you drive you C5 now, DD or a garage queen.
And take out all the stress of someone else driving your vette, you can't use it in your decision.
I'm gona do it.
I like every style of corvette and it would be sweet to drive a C2 for a season.
What do you think?

A week or maybe a month, yes. A year, no.
(I have never driven a C2 and am assuming it won't handle anywhere near as well as a C5. If that's wrong then I'd change my answer.)

If I had a completely stock C5 and traded for a basic 300hp rated C2 I would say no. My pops '65 300hp base 4spd is very awesome but no where near as much fun to drive or comfortable as the C5.
On the other hand, a modified C5 for a heavily modified C2 is a different story. While in college I worked part time at a private custom shop and helped build a ton of vettes. We built a '66 convertible with a N/A 396, suspension upgrades, brakes, T-5 trans, etc and it was an absolute blast.
Good luck with your trade!

Yeah I'd trade one for a week but that's probably about it, same for a C1 or a C3. My father has had a 65 vert for 19 years but he won't let me drive it
I drove it to the gym about 2 miles away from his house after I detailed it one time he didn't know however...ha

Pretty much any C2 is worth twice what my C5 is, probably more like 3X-4X for a good one, so it's hardly a fair trade.
OTOH, while I'd love to own a good C2, my C5 is my only car and there's just no way a C2 could replace it in that role...again, hardly a fair trade, but from the other direction.

I think it would be a hoot.
I like the C2 corvette, my older brother had one and I got to drive it a lot when I was a kid.
Don't get me wrong, I would want my C5 back at the end of the year.

My .02 on the subject.
I've spent a lot of time in both. My father bought the one he still has new in 1965 long before I was old enough to drive. My older brother bought his 1965 used in 1971. Both cars were stock for many years but both have been highly modified and updated several times. My dad's was a 396 manual and my brothers was a small block manual. After having that experience I wouldn't consider it at all. They are way hotter inside than the c5 and they ride rough as hell. They won't come close to handling as well and they accelerate about the same. My dad's big block was rated at 425 h.p. and all but it still only ran in the low 13's. In addition to all of that those old cars are dinosaurs when it comes to safety. I like old cars but I don't want one for that reason alone. It's a romantic thought but its not for me.

The car in the photo in post #2 is a 65 or 66 big block unless the hood and fender emblem have been changed or the big block was removed. Probably a 66 because there weren't very many 65 big block around in 1965 let alone today. Just thought I would mention it.

No, I wouldn't trade off for a year. The C2 is a great looking car, and is cool for short Sunday afternoon rides and cruise nights, but the C5 is just a great all around car. It is so much better in ride, handling, comfort, braking, pretty much everything.

I could see swapping for a week or so, but not for a year or even three months. I love the looks of a C2, but am spoiled by the overall refinement of my C5.

I have both and wouldn't want to drive the 66 daily. That being said, I did drive it 250 miles to a car show a couple of weeks ago. Think I got around 15mpg which is a big difference.
