Default Low Buck C5's ..how the other half lives

How about sharing some of your adventures with your Low priced C5 Corvette.
I recently picked up my '99 for $7500. from a used car lot in Vegas..

My car is shiny Black with black interior in very good condition (in fact amazing for it's age)...It's an a/t Coupe with 222500 on the clock and the engine runs good. Came with new tires and a fresh battery.

OK here's my "adventures so far..first night at home the parking lights wouldn't turn off, I unhooked the battery and took it back to the lot the next day.

Well few days later I got it back. They removed the cheeseball Alpine stereo (dash wasn't boogered up. whew..) and said the wiring was terrible and causing problems, they also replaced my ignition switch.

My passenger window that wasn't working now works, the horn that didn't blow now blows and the lights are working correctly. here's the scary part...

I got it back and the tranny wasn't working right, so back I went to the car lot and now it's in the shop for a tranny..so far quite an adventure..

I still love the car and I'm looking forward to more "adventures" with my Low-Buck C5..

What do you mean by "not working right" in regard to the tranny?
What was it doing?

DSTURBD

P.S. I read your threads when you were considering buying this car, so I'm curious in how things go for you.

My C4 was a steal at $4k (booked out at $13k when I wrecked it). My car wasn't the cheapest around, but I got a hell of a deal on a very nice car.

I would say at $7500, if it runs, it's a win. My C4 didn't have heat.

Slipping..on the highway, I'd push on the gas and the motor would rev but no go..I wasn't able to test drive it on the hwy before I bought it. Didn't feel too bad around town. When I test drove the salesman talked me out of taking on the Fwy as traffic was a mess..live and learn eh..but the lot has told me they'll take care of it for me, we'll see..(fingers crossed)..they been in business 20 yrs at this lot..in a review I read another guy had a tranny replaced, so hopefully my deal will go the same way.

Forgot to mention the "High Trans Temp" came on too. And what looked like the "engine service" indicator. (yellow outline of a motor on the dash by the speedo)..I haven't had the car long enough to be sure what the yellow engine outline mean't.

[QUOTE=ZigZag;1587019533]Slush box tranny I presume.

Real slushy at this point..for the record I love a stick too, but this car just looked so darn nice it grabbed me. The interior is really fine no rips or tears or worn spots, dash is perfect, the carpets great too..no chips in the glass..and 'cept for a few scuffs and scratches the paint is cherry. It'll polish up respectably i think..also came with new tires and a fresh battery..

Sounds like you're on your way to seeing what every part of the car is like. Mine had 60K on it when I bought it and I had to have the climate control vacuum hose repaired from a battery leak that I didn't know about, the oil sending unit replaced because it was pegged out and the column lock popped up and had to install the CLB all before I could drive it home from Nebraska. I think you'll enjoy it and have tons of fun with it. Just don't get to frustrated with it when things pop up and you'll be fine.

I'd buy this dealer a case of beer with all the time and energy they are putting in after the sale. Good for you as well to take it all in stride. Be nice and you usually get treated the same in return!!!

I agree about the nice part. even though it took a couple days I was cool with them first time around and offered many thanks for them fixing the first issues.

Second time back I could tell the mgr wasn't thrilled when he realized the tranny was bad and recognized I certainly didn't drive it enough to know the the trans was toast in the beginning. His parting words yesterday were "don't worry we'll take care of it"..

I'll be patient again since we're headed into the week-end. Hopefully by the end of next week my baby will be home safe in my driveway.

I messed up a little though.. A couple BIG birds bombed it pretty good before I left it at the lot for the tranny fix and I thought about it later.. I should have cleaned the mess right away, but I was on my way to a gig and in a hurry..

..paint detail anybody ??

Am I a **** for saying this DS is willing to help because they paid around 1500-2000, for this C5 ? Don't ask me how I know but they have a built in PF margin that once it gets too close the "free repairs will stop". OP just so you know if the transmission needs replaced you can bet the bill of sale you signed will say "sold as is" soon. Hope I am wrong....

Good that they are working with you on all the problems you've had. Hopefully it will be trouble free for a while now.

That's great that the dealership will work with you. Be sure to check your bill of sale for that "Sold-As-Is" clause on used car sales. Hopefully, your repairs will be done correctly and not just patched up.

Like I said in an earlier post I read a review online that started out like a complaint because his repairs from the DS had taken 3 weeks to complete..but in the end the customer seemed very satisfied, and claimed they did over 2K worth of work on his car including a new transmission.

I also read online the trans swap isn't too bad on the C5's. Then I also saw a low mile used trans on Ebay for less than a grand. Hope I'll be OK on this deal and of course I'll keep you guys posted as the drama unfolds.

Now where's MY popcorn ?
