Corbeau Sportline Evolution X install
I’ve gotta to say, I love ’em
Background
We know the stock C5 seats have the support of a bag of marshmallows… plus, at 6’3” 205lbs with a long torso, my head was on the headliner even with the seats all the way down.
I had A4’s in a previous car and they were OK, but not awesome. Too small – I sat on them, not in them. 34” waist, fairly broad shoulders, really cramped my torso. The reclining mechanism seemed floppy and was never used.
I looked at FX1 Pro, Sparco, and a couple others. I kept coming back to the Evolution X as a bit ‘different’ and looked like a cool design. Plus I was intrigued that Corbeau on their website mentioned they developed the fixed-back Evolution X to fit the C5 & C6 because the regular reclining Evolution just looked so good in there.
So after some hemmin & hawin I decided to go for it.
Install
I bought the seats through TPSMak here on the forum – he got me a good price. Delivery took about a week and a half and they arrived in a big ‘ol box in good condition.
Seat quality is A-1. Bracket/slider mechanism is less so. They seem rather crudely made and one of them arrived mis-assembled & bound up.
I was able to straighten it out, but they could definitely use improvement in design & manufacture.
Installation was more or less a piece of cake. The only hassle was the seat and/or the slider were a bit mis-matched: bolt hole off by 1/8” or so.
I had to enlarge the holes slightly. It’s still not perfect, the mechanism binds a bit, but it works.
The seats FIT PERFECTlY! TPSMak thought I might have to re-drill the mount holes by 1.5” or so; but both seats are perfectly aligned in their position. Driver’s seat is perfectly aligned with the steering wheel.
Fit & Feel
They feel great. They fit me!! This is a big deal for me. The seat is solid, wide, and flat, with very dense padding. It is a solid 1-1.5” lower than the stock seats & bought me HEADROOM! YAY!
The angle is very good: aggressively upright but not crazy. The back is nice and wide, fits my shoulders well. I am still slightly tall for the seats, so the side bolsters feel like they need to be a bit higher, but not much.
Took them for a spin and YEAH. THIS is what it’s supposed to be like! Firm, nice feedback, rock-solid, still decently comfortable.
Cosmetics
The seats look super sharp in person. They do not photograph very well – they look a bit plastic. In person they look fantastic, like zillion-dollar leather. It’s not leather – but it looks nice!
They have a cool carbon-fiber weave pattern goin on the sides & back - very sharp.
The grey plastic belt guides are the only thing I’d change. They look worse in the pics than in person – reflecting the flash & all. They tie into the white color of the car slightly, but don’t go with anything else in the interior. The grey plastic doesn’t clash too badly, but it would be better in plain black. Not a big deal, cause when you’re sitting in the seat… you can’t see it. I'll dye them black if it bothers me enough.
The red stitching is a nice touch, it accents the aggressive lines of the seat. They look like business. It goes with the red accent lights in the doors, red seatbelt latch, gauges & such.
Conclusion
Overall, I am VERY happy with them. Recommended!! And thanks to TPSMak for a smooth transaction.
Now I just need to figure out how to cover the ugly bare front bracket mount points!

Very nice review and they look great !
Congrats on ditching the "Bag of Marshmallow" OEM seats !
I got some carpet at Walmart to cover the mounting hole's
Walmart product # 15524364 (Remington Industries Carpet Replacement - Model 170-12)

I got my Corbeau FX1 Pros from Mak at TPS. Extremely happy with both the seats and the service I got from them.
I also was considering the Evo X seats, but decided against it. I am a smaller frame guy and I wanted more bolstering. Also I have a coupe and drive mostly with the roof off, so the FX1 Pro's alcantara is way better under the sun for me.
Have to say tho, your car is the first I see the Evo X installed in it and they look even better than I expected. Very cool review too.

You guys really need to stop with the seats. It's making me want some to replace my z06 seats even though they're in perfect condition. Not cool guys, not cool.

Nice looking seats, although I have to wonder why Corbeau insists on putting their name on them twice. Once is more than enough.

Agree with your choice - I think this is the biggest seat that can go in there. Smaller people would be lost in it.

Do it man, and sell the stockers to help offset the cost. The difference is night & day; perhaps the biggest single simple mod for overall feel & enjoyment you can do.

Great job! I have been thinking about grabbing these seats as well.
If you reeeeeally want the seats to tie in with the interior, get a shift boot, parking brake boot, and console lid cover in the carbon fiber material from Redline Goods!

Finally!!! These are likely on my list, they look amazing and for the price, you can't beat them.
They look a little more upright than how I have my seats. I'm 6'4" and need all the head room I can get. I'm a little worried with them being fixed back.

you can adjust the angle to an extent by adding washers under the front mounts. They look more upright than they really are. It's a fairly upright, aggressive angle but not race-car bolt-upright by any means.

I have been looking at your seats since the first of the year.
Thanks for showing how nice they fit. The vinyl is a turn off.
2015 will be the start of a new interior for me. This seat
maybe the one.
