Looking for heater hose p/n 12368235
I am planning to replace all of the (original ) cooling system hoses on my '97. There are seven. Six of them I have ordered no problem. The seventh (heater hose p/n 12368235) I cannot find anywhere.
Best I can tell from talking to a number of different places is that this p/n simply references 9/16" heater hose in general, as this hose (unlike the other six on a '97 Vette) is the only one that is not a preformed hose.
Unfortunately, I can find nobody who sells 9/16" heater hose.
Any ideas?

I just did a simple internet search and found that P/N to be everywhere. GM vendors, eBay, you name it.

I have called (and been to) probably 8 - 10 parts stores, including 3 different GM dealerships. NOBODY has 9/16 heater hose.
Have not pursued the metric approach, if I strike out here I will try that next.
I would think that a number of folks here on CF have replaced that hose - where did you get if from?
Thanks!

FYI, that hose has a metric ID. IIRC, it is an odd metric size like 19.5mm or something similar. Point is, it is not 9/16" nor is it 1/2", which (along with 5/8" ID) are very common heater hose sizes carries by AP stores.
IIRC, the part number you have, which is correct, is for a bulk 50' roll (I think it's 50), and is a "cut-to-length as needed" type item.
Here's what I did:
Call around to the GM dealers (notice I said GM and not Chevrolet) in your area, to see if they carry this item. I had to call two or three, but I found one, who also does lots of truck sales and service, and apparently this hose is used on some GM trucks and they carry it for their service dapartment to use when doing repairs on PUs, etc. Even though I had to pay full List price, I only needed such a short amount that it didn't really matter. I think it was something like $5.00 or $6.00 per foot.
The other alternative is to "sleeve" the two nipples where the hose attaches, using some self-vulcanizing electrical tape, etc, then fitting a 9/16" hose over the "sleeve".
Try calling around first, because any dealer that DOES stock it, does so for their service department primarily, but will gladly cut and sell you a couple feet.

BTW - The GM parts system does call it out as 9/16"...

Is that what you wound up with?
I hope I haven't been chasing my tail over the past several days for no reason, but will be happy to buy 5/8" if that is REALLY what it is...

I just called NAPA - they told me they don't carry 9/16" heater hose. So on a whim I asked them if I gave them the GM p/n could they see what it cross references to? They told me 5/8" heater hose.

5/8 is just a hair larger than 9/16 I would think that would work with a good clamp, I thought I got 9/16th from them, It was a while ago.

9/16" comes out to approx 14.3mm, which I think is too small. I think that's wrong.
Upon further reflection and doing more checking, I think it's actually something like 15.1mm, which would make the nipple too big for 9/16" and too small for 5/8". IIRC, it was even marked on the replacement GM hose, but like I said, it's been awhile and I'm going by memory, but I DO remember it being an odd size.
When you're calling around, specifically ask the parts guy to check availability at the other gm dealers in the area. All GM dealers' (Chev, Buick, Cadillac, GMC, etc) parts system computers have access to the other GM dealers' computer, so you don't have to keep calling each and every individual dealer. Some are VERY lazy and will not do this unless specifically asked. The good ones will do it as a matter of course without having to be asked first.

So...I am a bit at a loss here. I have read a couple of other threads on here about this p/n and it seems that others have run into the same confusion. I just don't want to create a coolant leak for myself by putting on a 5/8" hose if it really should be smaller, but I'm beginning to think that I don't have any other choice other than to just leave the old hose on.

A good suggestion - I have been doing this and most were cooperative. Several times they got a hit and gave me the name of the dealer - so I thought AHA...got it! Called the dealer that supposedly had the part only to learn they input that particular p/n into their system so they "had something to charge warranty to" for a generic hose. They didn't ACTUALLY have the part.

If you have no luck all, let me know as I have another idea for you and it involves Gates "Power Grip" SB heat-shrink hose clamps.

Call Fichtner Chev and see if they have a roll on hand. They are in Montana and do a LOT of GM truck sales and service (most of their business AAMOF), plus they are a big CF vendor here. If they have a roll in stock for their service dept to use, I know Tom will gladly cut 2' or whatever length you need, bearing in mind they likely only sell by the even-foot lengths, so measure your old hose length carefully.

While I was out running errands today I grabbed a couple of feet of 5/8" hose from the local Auto Zone. That will be my "when all else fails" plan...

Will watch this closely as I am getting ready to replace my coolant hoses and this is one the dealer said is not available as a separate piece of hose - have to get it in bulk lengths and cut to fit.

I'm kind of surprised that no GM dealer in the Greater metro Detroit area there where you live, doesn't have a roll on hand.

Before I did any internet search I looked up the P/N in my parts book for 97 to make sure I showed the same number.

Well - I can (and did) buy 2' of 5/8" hose locally.
As I said above, I will use it if I have no alternative, just concerned about it because GM's part system calls it out as 9/16" hose.
Appreciate all your help.
Thanks,
Bob

Hello Robert
This part number is just for a 25’ roll of bulk hose. Is that what you are looking for?
Thank you

Looking for the above p/n for my ’97 Corvette. You show as having it, but also show it is only for a 1991 Chevy S10/Blazer?
Having a lot of difficulty finding that heater hose.
Can you please advise?
Thanks,
Bob

go to your local parts stores and measure the 5/8" with a dial caliper some runs are small. i found a roll of gates 5/8" that measures identical to the OE 9/16"
bought 5ft of it and still have a chunk. 9/16 marked hose is impossible to find
even if you do find a GM dealer with the correct hose it sells for a touch over $10 a foot.
i would not use 5/8" blind. some of the hoses i measured were way too big for the c5 and were more like 11/16" not 5/8
