New York State Road Trip
I live in Wisconsin and this summer we are planning to take the Vette on a road trip to Connecticut for a wedding. We are staying at Niagara Falls for two nights at a motel and then we have three days to get to New Haven Ct. We were thinking about camping a couple nights in New York State. They have a lot of state parks and would like to know if any of you are familiar with them. Mountains, Lakes, waterfalls, awesome hiking trails and scenic beauty are on the top of our list. Anyone have any suggestions?

Go to Lake Placid if you have time! Also, there is a park in western NY called the Grand Canyon of the east called Letchworth State Park. Thats another good one!
Of course do these in reverse order!

Last fall I visited The Hudson River Valley and enjoyed a tour of West Point and a visit to Orange County Choppers. This area is close to New Haven.

Letchworth State Park is very nice .The Niagara falls is great try to go on the Maid of the Mist boat ride you go up close to falls . They give out rain coats that is how close you get well worth the time. There are casino's on both USA and Canada sides. If going to Canada side don't forget passport . As for other area's of state checkout finger lakes area, great for watersport and fishing, camping area. Seneca lake area with Watkins Glen race track. Have FUN

Robert Treman State Park in Ithaca NY. There is a gorge you can hike and a swimming area with a waterfall you can swim up to and sit in the falling water. Very cool.

There surely are a lot of nice parks in NYS. NYS has a lot to offer, many hidden treasures to out-of-staters. Niagara Falls is beautiful, you will enjoy it.
Head east on route 90, exit at Geneva and head south on route 14, this will take you along Seneca Lake. About 45 minutes from the exit you will reach Watkins Glen. They have a beautiful state park with water falls. Watkins Glen is also home to Watkins Glen International, located approx. 5 miles from the state park. Depending on the time of the year, and how you schedule your day, you could head to the track at 12:00 noon and pay $20 for 3 parade laps around the track.
After that you could travel north on the east side of Seneca Lake and grab lunch or dinner at a winery.
If you are looking to camp, there are camp grounds all over the state, including many of the state parks and lakes. I'd research the Adirondacks, I can't recommend anywhere as I do not know any place specific, but this area is very popular for campers, hunters, fishers, snow-mobilers, and alike.
I don't know when the wedding is, but the last week of June is the big United SportsCar racing weekend at Watkins Glen where the C7Rs will be competing.

The Finger lakes and Watkins Glen are great. If coming from the north/west on 90, go down 14 like n8dogg suggested. Do the wineries along the way (Glenora has a nice restaurant), walk through the Glen state park, check out the track, and then head south towards Corning. If you want, you can take 17 west to check out the Corning Museum of Glass. Then get back on 17 east and take it all the way to the Hudson River/CT border. 17 is a much nicer ride than the Thruway. The best part is that you avoid Albany. (I went to college in the Capital District. It's a hole.)
I bought my Z06 on Long Island a couple of years ago and took 17 to 14 on my way home.

Excellent advice above. Regarding the Adirondacks, if you go that route prior to mid-July (at the earliest) have a good supply of Avon IR3535! It's the only thing that works against the swarms of black flies. Trust me in this one, we used to own property up around the Little Falls area (off of 90)
If you do end up coming over 17, you may want to investigate route 55 over through Minnewaska. There are TONS of hiking trails there. Just stop at the main visitors center (on the right, you can't miss it) and the rangers will be a huge help to you.
If you do a google map directions from: Roscoe, NY to New Paltz, NY it will show you how to get from 17 into the Mid-Hudson Valley area. Nice ride through Minnewaska. MUCH better in the fall but.... http://i1317.photobucket.com/albums/...psc21775bf.jpg

That sounded like fun. Checked the dates and the drive around is closed for that week.

There really is a lot to see in New York State. I never knew that. When we think of New York, we think of NYC.

Ithaca is about halfway from Niagara Falls and our destination in Connecticut. This might be a good place to relax for a day, then drive the rest of the way the next day.

Definitely go to the Ithaca Ale House, best burger I have ever had.
