Default Training TPMS before install

C5 stock wheels. I've seen the video on how to train new TPMS. I purchased 4 new Schrader sensors, and read somewhere to train them before the installation.

Do I just place them on the ground at each wheel, then go around with the magnet (making sure to mark which wheel they go with)?

Anything else? Thanks.

I have not done this yet but have read a few threads/posts on it. Once you train/learn the new sensors the old ones will not be recognized and you will get an error message until the new ones are installed.

Your way would work. I would put each in a Ziploc marked with a wheel location (or you could just put a piece of masking tape on each sensor) with wheel location and just learn/train them with the magnet while sitting in the front seat. If using the masking tape as they install them they could transfer the masking tape to the wheel so you would know the proper location.

As I said I have not tried this, just read a bunch. When I change my tires I will be doing new sensors and plan on training/testing before installation.

This is what I did, Works great.

I did mine sitting in the driver's seat and it worked fine.

I marked the sensors for position, and then mounted them in the wheels. However, they were not mounted in the correct wheels and I had to train them again while on the car. I would get mad at the shop, except I mounted them myself and didn't pay attention.

I also noted that when I programmed them all in the drivers seat, when I started the car, I got error messages showing flat tires since the air pressure was zero when not mounted. However that could be cleared and as soon as I drove the car the messages went away.

This method should make it easier to train the sensors if you mount them in the right wheels.

What you describe will work well. Just be sure the installer keeps them straight (even though you mark them I would make sure they do it right).

That's the way I did it & it worked great.

Why bother with Ziploc bags or masking tape? Just use a magic marker and simply write LF or RF or LR or RR on them (as appropriate). This is not rocket science.

Bought them at Tire Rack. $42 each, $168 shipped to my door.

Thanks for the replies.
