Default Fuel pump whining

I have a 2004 coupe. In the last couple of days I hear a medium pitch whining or humming sound from the back end. Also noticeable in the cabin. It's a steady sound, whether idling or running. Radio and fan is off. Could this be coming from the fuel pump? Is the pump within the tank itself?

It is most likely the fuel pump you are hearing, Yes the pumps are in the tanks. Does it only do it when the tanks are low?

I had 2 "97"'s that had noisy pumps but my "99" was quiet! I thought only the "97" had this problem.

I also notice this on my 03. It's noticeable when the tanks are low. There have been several discussions on this in the past. It does not appear to be a problem. Some have had the pumps changed only to have the same whine. Expensive also.
